Okay I lied. I'm posting to help answer a non-current question for xBTAx.
It's been mentioned previously. Like how the 10th Doctor kept disabling Jack's vortex manipulator every time he has one. Then go to the 11th Doctor who only used said manipulator for a very dire situation. Overall, he considers the device primitive as the 10th. As the 11th he sees it as "cheap and nasty time travel, very bad for you", and that how he's "trying to give it up". Overall, I'd call it matter of his tastes. He probably sees the manipulator akin to a drug (hence being cheap and nasty time travel, on top of trying to give it up). He probably doesn't want to become reliant on it, nor does he want to abandon "Sexy" in case he gets too attached to a more rule-free time travel device.
