Graphics isn't everything, the problem is that because it's a little fanbase they'd need to put a lot of effort to make it worth playing even if the player isn't very related to megaman's world. And sadly as you said most people think that graphics = good game (I'm not one but you must always take this in consideration because that's the way the market is heading long time by now).
And I don't think nintendo Wii U will be that death when PS4/xbox 720 comes out, mostly because the industry can't bet in more graphics, the game already need profits a la Hollywood to survive, more costs in graphics would kill it.
