Guild Wars 2
Corn Wrote:God, what a lot of stress tests T__T.
1st stress test:
Testing the login for launch. Servers had to restart because of the mass amount of people.

2nd stress test:
Testing login again, but another issue came up.

Are mesmers still under-powered? Because that's all my friend played during the trial tests, and he pretty much pomegranate on the people playing pvp.

Lol, an hour long stress test.

His build seemed better than mine in the group fights because of that piercing pistol shot, but for the 1v1s I was pretty much unkillable. Being able to remove conditions extremely fast, having so much health, and still not losing out on damage because of the boons was pretty powerful. I came up with the build myself so I'm very happy that someone came up with a very similar build and is having very good success.

Edit - LOL the perfect counter to this build. I was fighting a necro and I kept using my elixirs to dispel all of his damage and ended up with 4 elixirs worth of buffs. Then the necro uses his skill to turn all boons into conditions and I end up going from 75% to dead in like 4 seconds rofl

As far as I know, they don't have a lot of viable builds because of lack of synergy with traits/skills.

If they played mesmer in GW1 and liked it, chances are they won't like it in GW2. If you've played GW1, eles and memser have essentially switched their basic playstyle in GW2. :3

I didn't play Mesmer, but I played Ele. Did they change wholesale? Or is it just a minor playstyle change?

Elementalists are pretty different. Your skills available are a combination of two things: Your Weapon and your Affinity. You can change either at will, however you don't get an extra weapon slot like most classes so changing weapons mid-fight can be cumbersome (Might be impossible actually now that I think of it, I can't remember if it lets you go through your inventory mid combat but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to). The Affinities are the same as they were in the past: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. They have essentially the same types of damage, but the difference between GW1 and 2 is that you can switch whenever you want, by pressing F1-4. This allows a lot more battle diversity in my opinion, because anytime you feel like switching up your moveset you have three others to go to, and then more with different weapons.

You have several weapon choices available to you, and each one seems to fit a theme of combat. For example, Staves are mostly Long-Range, High Damage nuking. Wands + Focuses are more of a Mid-Range with some DOT skills, and Daggers are short range. I don't know much about Dagger play with Eles, because I found it absolutely awful (Damage was low as hell and you're too squishy to play close range with low damage). I felt that Daggers definitely needed a buff, you should be more of a Glass Cannon in my opinion with them. I couldn't even kill a single regular mob my level by myself with Dual Daggers at about Lv.10, it was insane. I think you can do Dagger+Focus as well, and I might have missed one. I mostly went Staff, Wand and Focus during the Beta last month.

Since there's no Energy anymore, it's all cooldowns. This makes Eles a lot more powerful in my opinion, because there's no issues where you might spend too much Energy and therefore a good combo situation would be impossible, which I found happening to me a lot in GW1. Never had enough Energy when I needed it.

One of the cool things I found that they did was that some of the favorite skills, like Firestorm, are purchasable 6-8 skill slot skills. They also work with any affinity, and change based on which one you are when you use the spell. I thought that was a cool change.

Anyway, Ele is definitely way different, but I think it's a hell of a lot more fun this way.

"Mesmer used to be the fast caster and ele used to be the slow burst. Now, ele is fast/mobile/strong support. GW1 ele = slow + bursty, mes = fast cast/punish/control" is what my friend has said. This is looking at the classes in sPvP perspective btw. You can pretty much play whatever you want in PvE.

Double post because there's some pretty important news!

Quote:We will be conducting a stress test tomorrow Wednesday, August 15 from 12:00 Noon PACIFIC Time to 4:00 PM PACIFIC Time.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/intro...ld-wars-2/ ― Final server list is out!

http://www.gw2guilds.org/guilds ― not quite up-to-date, but it's more informative than other lists. fyi Brasil has apparently chosen Darkhaven as its unofficial server.
http://www.gw2guilds.org/overview ― HMM, tempted to stay on Stormbluff. XD

Quote:Pre-Purchase with 3-Day Headstart:
Everyone who pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 will enjoy three full days of Headstart Access. The three-day Headstart Access will officially begin at 0:00 AM Pacific time (GMT -7:00) on August 25th. However, please note that in order to ensure that we’re fully prepared for that fateful hour we may bring servers online up to 3 hours prior. If you’re a player committed to getting in first to grab that character name of your dreams you’ll want to be keeping an eye on things during that time period.

Pre-Order with 1-Day Headstart:
Those who pre-ordered Guild Wars 2 will be able to participate in one day of Headstart Access. The one-day Headstart Access will begin at 0:00 AM Pacific time (GMT -7:00) on August 27th. NOTE – Pre-Order code registration is now enabled.

For those players who have not pre-purchased or pre-ordered the game, Guild Wars 2 will officially launch at 0:00 AM Pacific time (GMT -7:00) on August 28th.

Only four days until the 3-day headstart begins! Cannot wait, I'm so excited to finally really play the game. I'm still having trouble deciding between a Guardian or Engineer, though. I really liked the Guardian, but I still want to try out Engineer too. But I know for a fact that my main character's race will definitely be Asura.

How the hell have people already got guilds made, when the game isn't even open yet? Are the ones listed in that page just people being hopeful that they can get on during the first few minutes of the game and create theirs, or is there some way to make your guild before the game goes live? This is pissing me off because my wife and I want to make a guild, but going by this, there's no way we'll get a name we actually want. Sad

The guilds aren't made in the game yet. Guild names don't seem particularly visible in this game, all I see are guild tags, which can be duplicated I think.

It really is just them hoping to get the guild name they want -- you need to have 2 silver to create a guild now, so it shouldn't be too bad if a group of people send their money to the guild leader.

Guild tags can probably be the same. Pretty sure guild and character names are unique since you can play in other servers and have cross-server guilds.

I just read that you get a Nexon account when you sign up for GW2.

I wonder if we get a GW2 account for every Nexon account...

I was not surprised since Nexon is the biggest ANet shareholder with 14.7%. and loves to promote itself any way it can. Can anyone confirm that this is indeed true?

Well, I don't recall any mention of Nexon when I made my GW2 account in June. I certainly wouldn't want my Anet and Nexon accounts linked in any way -- the thought of my GW2 gems being siphoned off by the latest round of MapleStory account crackers would pretty much guarantee I'll stay away from that.
