Khaini LHC - Fully taken over by hackers
#61
Whenever people start suggesting that Nexon should hire GMs to go on a major banning spree I shudder a bit, because I just know that the new GMs will be poorly trained, poorly paid, careless and just won't give a damn if they ban the right people or not, so all sorts of innocent players will get banned when they use unfamiliar skills or lag for a few seconds.
Our accounts mean a lot to us, we may have spent much time and money on them, but for the new hires that means nothing. For them its just a temp crap job until they find something better, so who cares right. That looked odd, what skill is that? Is he hacking or is that lag? Who cares, ban him. Gotta ban 200 more by 4pm to make the quota. Oh good heres some more. Ha Ha. This is a laugh.
With autobans, at least you can wait it out if you want, but GM bans are final.

Training new GMs would be as simple as giving them the power, taking them to LHC, showing them what a NoDelay hack looks like, and be done with it. I have no idea where youre getting this notion that innocent players would get banned. Innocent players dont all map barrel hack with cannoneers. Innocent players dont use no delay hacks.

Hacking on Khaini was the biggest reason I left it a couple years back. Well that and generally anybody that wasn't a hacker was a KSer. But that's ancient history, so onto this topic!

Hacking will always be prevalent in online gaming because it simply reaps too many rewards for the little effort involved. Do people pay to have their lawns mowed? Some people do. Well then, why not pay for something that makes a game nearly effortless? The big conscious problem is that not everyone can afford/will do this on moral grounds. The majority of us think that there should be effort involved in obtaining a goal. And there is to certain people. The thing is that you should not compare yourself to or want to be that person who pays to mow the lawn or hacks a game because it lowers your standards and as such, your enjoyment. So compare yourself to the others that try and keep complaining for more maps/bans and hope that one day you and your trying comrades can live in peace and kill some LHC monsters in harmony =D

As for what Nexon could do that easier than keeping up bans forever is make every training map available to be done solo. No need to worry about map hackers if you can just do everything yourself.

My friend was banned only a few days ago because lower leveled people reported her as a hacker when she used the soaring skill on her witch broom mount.
She was released yesterday specifically on a "benefit of the doubt" basis.

You see, people do not play games and mow lawn for the same reason... Gaming is recreational, mowing is, for the majority of people, not.

Sure. I don't believe that for a second, but sure.

It's not that they should think about hiring new GMs yet. It's that there's no indication of the current batch of GMs even lifting a finger. I mean, it's not a hard job. All you have to do as a GM is go to the high-volume areas every hour or couple of hours, and patrol+ban. It's not too much to ask.

"Because I fear they might do it wrong, let's rather hope they let the game get worse and worse with hackers because they have free reign."

Not the point. Point is that you pretty much pay someone to do something that requires effort on your part. Doesn't matter if it's playing Maplestory or mowing the lawn, effort is effort.

I could say that the majority of people playing Maplestory now don't do it for recreational purposes either btw. Malestory can be a fairly hardcore addiction for some that can turn into something as/or more important than mowing the lawn.

Foxino Wrote:Couldn't agree more. I'll admit, NexonNA has improved greatly since the start of this year. Yet this is something they seem to be avoiding.. With how open hackers are nowadays wouldn't be hard to ban most of them..

They're betting on programs like Hackshield and Black Cipher to stop hackers. The idea isn't a bad one since it would make sense to stop hackers before they could even reach the login screen, but one that obviously isn't working. Nexon needs to realize that hackers will slip through the cracks and they need to take an two-prong approach both in-game and pre-game.

Like a lot of you have said, Nexon needs to actually become a part of the community in order to understand how players think and play and how to stop hackers. I'm surprised Nexon hasn't tried infiltrating the hacking community, either. They sure did with private servers.

I know when private servers were a big deal, many programmers actually wanted to work for Nexon and were using private servers as experience and including many ideas they knew Nexon wouldn't implement. Obviously the situation is different, but I'm sure there would be a few hackers who would turn if the right incentive was given.

Bottom line, in my opinion, is that Nexon has never made a real effort to combat hacking. It's basically that big scary mammoth of a thing that Nexon has been trying to ignore - the elephant in the room if you will. Every time it rears it's ugly head in a big way, then Nexon pays attention. Anyone who has played the game consistently since its release in North America knows that MapleStory usually goes through periods of increases in hackers, and then dies down. The last year or so it doesn't seem to be dying down, though. It really seems like Nexon has lost control of many facets of the game, and I think they're trying to downplay the real issues greatly.

Ouch. How many servers actually have this problem? I don't see it in bera surprisingly enough (Not at LHC anyway)

Stating the obvious here but nexon's best move is to get people to regulate things they actually advertise. They advertise LHC as an end game, goal to get too in nearly every preview. This includes Time Temple. Nearly every class is seen within these maps. I would figure, by common sense, that should be regulated based on the fact that's the "trophy" they advertise "Once you're here, you're a boss!". Just having a few employees cycle through it an hour a day, not that expensive, not that much effort, and really is as mundane as ticket reading. Yet the impact would be apocalypse level. As @thegreatone; said, eventually nexon will be attacking the sites, and will break them eventually, but that's a long term goal.

They need to think about actions that are immediate impacts that help us, rather than put us at the mercy, once again, to players who cheat. I mean at the very least they can keep hackers from regulating entire maps. But once again, these are obvious solutions, and frankly, at this point, necessary. It's time to bite the bullet.

For the fatherland!

What I dont understand is why they cant just hire 20 people per server or even 10 to just go around and ban hackers. It's not like they train in hard to find spots... on "website here"'s guide for hackers they all go to the same spots... Nothing new... And even so it wouldn't be hard to find someone who has disconnected 30 times in the past half hour and is still playing. At least find the person and say hello if they aren't hacking even! If they are? Well... ban hammer! They could pay me 10 bucks an hour in NX and I would do it... I'd be the star GM O-o

And yeah - Last night, Khaini was a wreck. Was alright during the 2x a week or so ago though... but last night EVERY channel except for 1 or 2 were home to hackers. And not only that but sometimes I saw stronger hackers overtaking the weak ones and making them leave. Lolwut?

My friend quit his Paladin because he was afraid of low level noobs reporting him for "god mode".

Why don't you just pay someone to perform your bodily functions for you? That's basically what you're saying here. You can't compare two things solely on the basis that they're both things people do.

I'm starting to think people just like harassing me on this site -_-. Please stop making me come in here and defend a weak point that you have shot to pomegranate already.

Another problem here is that Nexon tends to think they have a problem fixed, when really, they didn't do much at all. The HackShield and BlackCipher are good steps, and they might block out some minor hackers. The problem is that most hackers tend to think "Okay, I can't do it this way, so what other way can I preform (x)".

HackShield and BlackCipher probably won't at any point work well enough to stop all outside hacking attempts, it's something that needs something more along the lines of an actual response team. Hackers are always going to find new ways of exploiting a game, and by extension, new ways of using those exploits.

At least they respond fast to Cash Shop issues.

Yeah, Maybe instead of trying to stop hacks from being preformed, they can just stop people preforming the hacks (Actively having GMs on banning those who are obviously hacking). Because there is always a way around what Nexon does to prevent hacks from working.
