Polantaris Wrote:25 Elements? Really? That's the one thing that caused me to completely hate Chrono Cross. There's just too many elements in that game, it drove me nuts.

It's all about how you play it whether or not the game is about spamming a single ability. I never played Tales of Eternia that way, but I could certainly see people doing it. I love Tales of Eternia, but just like every game there's a few abilities you can spam to make the game easy street. It's all about how you want to play. Do you actually enjoy the battle system for what it is, or do you just want to get through it as fast as possible? I don't understand why people play games with the second mindset, but many people do. If you have the first, you can have fun with the battle systems even if it has some horribly flawed abilities. It's not even "Just never use that ability," just learn to work it into your fights, instead of the entire battle being pressing that same activation button over and over.

The 25 aren't elements, they're damage types in this game. I don't believe monsters have resistances, except maybe to the type they are, only weaknesses, and usually at most 4 or 5? The most number of damage types an arte can have is 3 (+2 from Red Charge for spells). There's a few artes though that I would label to be significantly lower in utility.
Asbel's "Heaven's Wrath" has a really weird hitbox with a lot of movement and attacks, and he doesn't readjust himself easily to connect every hit. Ironically, it works well against large targets, but has a bonus to Human type enemies.
Sophie's bottom right alpha style arte has a really long start-up time so it's super easy for her to get knocked down while being in the middle of using it. Perhaps it's something to experiment with by chaining a beta arte into it, but I rarely used it, and I think I may have just turned it off for her when she's AI.
Pascal's Magnetic Gate is pretty useless most of the time. I've generally felt it's a waste of CC if you're trying to use it to set up a combo, but I'll try experimenting with this later.

Sarah Wrote:What? I haven't seen either of these. I'm still in Barona with Tiger Festival and there's no chest near the Cryas. And there was none up the windmill. I was up there like nine times.

Oh wait. I'm reading this wrong. Those are in the future. Maybe there aren't any missable Carta then. I think that may be just from the Wii version then, where some couldn't be obtained after the time skip. I'm sorry =[ It stuck in my mind there were some exclusive ones because I remember missing some my first time on the Wii.

You need to use the mechanisms in each tower in some specific order I believe?

Also, all of my rage when

Zankuujin Mujinshou is localised as EXPUNGING SWORD.
Expunge is such a terrible word.

Justin Wrote:Mine doesn't come until tomorrow. The nearest gamestop to me is like 30+ minutes away and I hate driving out to the city. I tend to be more tolerant of english voices, so hopefully it's not THAT awful. As long as it isn't on the level of a certain Wii game... <___<;;
I'm in the same boat. I just can't get into the english voices when I've heard the japanese ones. Cheria's voice doesn't bother me much (neither did Marta's), but young Hubert's and Sophie's do. At the very beginning, I thought all of them were terrible, but Asbel's grew on me (or he got into character better), and Cheria's is okay. Also, happy that so much of this game is voice acted. Anyone remember the 300 non-voice acted skits in Abyss? Ugh.

I know it would probably take up a lot of disc space, but B> Language Option. Star Ocean had it, so why not? It's not like blu-rays are small.

Oh man, I'm freaking 15 hours in and I'm still on part 1. Too much enjoyment. Off to Lhant for the 20th flippin time.

Getting the game tomorrow / today (Wednesday). Apparently I wasn't informed that our copy already came in until well into the evening lol

Also, I like the complexity of the battle system. I watched a couple streams just to see how the battle system was and it's pretty awesome. I can't wait especially once we get into "Unknown" territory.

My comments earlier were regarding the childhood arc, which is all I had played yesterday. Just now got to the adult arc, and Asbel's voice acting is just awful. Is he just reading his lines off the script for the first time? Because that's what it sounds like.

What are soul orbs used for and do they have the 15 item limit like other items? Due to my completionist nature I know I will be racking them up so I want to make sure I don't waste any.

It's a black/purple orb key item right? They're used for ~3 Inn Request. Some monsters drop them, and you can get them from random treasure and chests occasionally. They also give grade at the end of the game for New Game+ if you obtain them from a monster. Monsters that can drop them are marked with a star in the monster book, and for each star, you get 1 grade or something like that, up to 194.

Some more tips:
In every town, there is a Stamp Card available to be filled out. As you interact (selling counts, though I believe selling doesn't give the same amount as buying) with the merchants of that town or with the turtle merchants who have their own card, their stamps will start to fill up. Every 10 stamps levels the card, and gives you a reward at their shops. For example, after spending 6000 Gald at the turtle merchants, you will have gotten 10 stamps (600 gald each at level 1), leveling up your Stamp Card to level 2. This unlocks Ground Beef (?) to be bought from any turtle merchant. Some rewards are 1 time only, such as Manuscripts and some rare use items, and others can be repurchased indefinitely. For the completionist, this can be important to remember to go to a different town when Dualizing, or selling things off to get the most out of stamps instead of wasting money at a level 10 store. Some equipment can only be obtained this way, and many ingredients for dualizing food as well.

The Ereth Pot (Mixer) uses Ereth for special effects. Foods can be put in for one time battle effects (i.e. won't activate again until next battle). For example, Rice Balls can be put in and it will consume 10 Ereth when a party member is below 60% HP to heal everyone 11% HP. It gives the Ereth Pot 11 EXP as well. Getting EXP for the Ereth Pot gradually increases the total Ereth capacity. This doesn't consume the food item either, so you can have indefinite use of your food! It also counts towards getting food-liking titles. Asbel likes Curry. Sophie likes some fried egg crab thing. Hubert likes Rice Omelet. Cheria likes grilled chicken bowl. Pascal likes Banana Pies. Malik likes Sea Bream Tea Rice (??). I don't think Richard has a title for this. Some foods give stat bonuses in battle, and when used outside of battle will provide that bonus for the next battle.

Manuscripts give special effects as well, that's in their description. One of the best Manuscripts increases your walking/running speed outside of battle. Other items such as consumables, materials/ingredients can be put in the Ereth Pot to have a chance at duplicating them. For example, an Apple Gummi has a 50% chance to be duplicated after a certain number of steps I believe, and consumes 24 Ereth. This comes in handy later if you're trying to get more of a certain item that can't be found easily, but rare items have really low creation rates (some are 0.01% for example). There are manuscripts that increase this chance though.

Some important titles are the mastery titles for artes. Every arte in the game except the 1 CC alpha style arte has two associated mastery titles which require use count to obtain. For example, Demon Fang's 1st title requires you to use it 100+ times. The 2nd title requires you to use it 800+ times. This scales down with the CC cost of the skill. The 1st and 5th skills learned from these titles are always (except for Demon Fang's 1st) bonuses to the skill itself. Demon Fang's 1st title 5th skill is for Demon Fist though. Some cases, this is the easiest way to get a title that lets you learn a certain arte, and other times it's the easiest way to get a new title so you're not stuck mastering something instead.

I knew how to get them; I have like 13 already. I just wanted to know what they were actually used for. Do they stack beyond 15?

They should stack up to 99 though I believe the most you need is around 60. You only need to have gotten one from a monster to count towards grade, rather than having as many in your inventory, as far as I know.

They have free Child arc armors available on the Playstation Store, just a heads up. (Same armors as you start out with, but with some bonuses like +1 CC and whatnot)

I'm still waiting for the EU release date. I have been watching and spamming information on a stream on twitch (Qik1 for anyone that's interrested), so the wait isn't driving me crazy just yet.

@JoeTang They greatly reduced the amount of times you need to use an arte to get the title from the Wii version. It's more like 20 or 50 for the first one and 50 or 100 for the second one now. There are still some titles which require insane amounts of arte usage, but they're not as important. Nevermind it's still a ton of uses.

I'm really enjoying it so far but I'm kind of tired of running circles from Lhant, which is pretty much the first 15 hours of the game. I see this huge world map and I've been to like 3 cities.

The Judas one (the one for Richard) is pretty cool, but the Kyle one for Asbel and the Rutee one for Sophie aren't that great.

Genma Shoureppa was named Diabolical Rage. I don't think it really fits the arte.

So much drama in this game, god damn. Just one tragedy or conflict after another. And Richard's a giant flaming douche. Just wanted to get that out there.

Also; TOO MANY TITLES. GOD DAMN. I tend to just 5star them and then move on. Does mastering a title have any actual benefits?
