It's not like we have options, really. Even by your relative definition, a good build serves to better the training process, which is a matter of how much damage the character deals to how many mobs in how much/little time. If there were 1 vs 1 training style in MS in addition to 1 vs many (or possibly more ways to level up beside mindless grinding), I'd agree with you at the drop of a hat.

By definition there must be a "best build" since there are good builds and bad builds. Since some builds are better than others, there must be a best build out of the ones that exist. That's good logic.

However, the best build is not a generic one-size-fits-all but very dependent upon the situation. The Phantom's flexibility is much more than any other class in the game, and it would be stupid to not abuse this feature to its full extent by advocating a static build as the best.

Phantom is fun when you're in your third job advancement. Right now I'm 4th job. Haven't tried out all the skills yet and Twilight disconnects you if you use it.
In 4th job charging your card stack is really fast. Tempest of Cards is a fun skill, it is like the BattleMage's twister skill except you can't move with Tempest of Cards. If you hold down the skill button, the size of the whirlwind gets bigger.

During the advancements, Phantom gets a LOT of LUK and its evasion is so great...

can you use a 3rd job skill-steal slot on a second job skill? This would allow HB and meso guard if you needed more HP since it'll stack with their mini-HB.

from the look of that there is no problem with hp in 4th job.

But I would say there is a best static build if say you dont meet up with anyone for a WHILE or just dont want to go people hunting.

But what does stacking cards actually do? is it like combo where u want max or something like demon force where you want it only to use it

7k HP at level 120 with bomb avoid and survivability skills from any adventurer. Sounds pretty durable to me. Though i completely see why they took out drain skills and MP recovery from thieves and buccs.

really? I can understand thieves but not buccs. what makes u say them? unless ur talking about their new 5%hp/mp skill

Well if you can steal drain from NLs, MP recovery from buccs, and meso guard from shads, this class would never die. You can't steal the 5% HP/MP skill from buccs because it's passive.

Advanced combo is a passive enhancement to combo attack, therefore you cant steal it. I also hope that skills which got a requirement on another skill can't be stolen, but not them all, just those that require a previous skill to be totally maxed.

Oh and I hope they reduce the number of mobs Ultimate drive can hit and incrtease its damage. This job already has a lot of mobbing skills, what they need is their own bossing skill so they dont need to steal others'.

Ohh I see. But both drain and mesoguard are 2nd job. (or would be, as well as mp recovery). It would be annoying switch especially if u couldnt be in "battle mode" and switch. But a class that has a revive every 5mins I dont see the problem with dieing. And its not like they cant steal Power guard. Can think of any defence skills pasted 2nd job that are active though for adventures.

It lasts like 10 seconds, you have to keep reusing it if you want the buff to stay active >_<

The Judgement buff only lasts for a couple of seconds, but it's very easy to "recharge" the cards.

That's the thing about the Legends. They all have an interesting gimmick, whether it be Combo, Dragons, Dual Bows, or... Phantom. O_o
