Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword [SPOILERS]
Reply
Just finished the 3rd dungeon, and I found it pretty good. Especially compared to the first 2, which completely sucked. Too bad the boss was one of the easiest Zelda boss ever.

That right there is one of the very few flaws of the game. Also, inb4 ShiKage's says urdoineetrong.

It's extremely nice to see people enjoying the game, and the overall fact that people hated that fucking desert as much as me.

Honestly if people don't have problems with controls and some people do then you are obviously doing something wrong.

Every review I read there was some little gripe about the controls. Sarah had problems, I had some problems, everyone had some problems. That feature wound not be as quick and simple inside of the game if they knew there weren't going to be problems.

If I do end up having problems with the game, it's as simple as recalibrating it (which I rarely do). The problem is that during boss fights and the like, people are probably wound from excitement/thrill (I'm to blame for this too) and it just offsets the position of your hand in correlation to where you last calibrated it causing some issues. The controls are sensitive and that's probably why people are irritated.

Just beat the game. 32 hours without any side quests really done.

That shouldn't be happening, though. Therefore it's a problem with the controls.

I think people who think there aren't problems with controls are either a) mesmerized by motion controls in the first place (thus they don't care that they suck sometimes), b) sitting on Nintendo's plantain or c) think they're being more realistic by accepting the flaws as something that happens and doesn't really matter, but in reality the problems do exist and while they're not game-breaking, they're still annoying and noticeable enough that they detract from the experience.

I'm certainly guilty of swinging too damn hard, especially when I'm getting into it, but that SHOULDN'T throw the game out of whack.

Also, regarding the final boss strategy...

No, really. You're doing it wrong.

I was doing it wrong when I first started playing too. It was hard to learn how to do the Skyward Strike for me. After using it non-stop since for cutting grass (SINGLE BEST TOOL FOR CUTTING GRASS), I can safely say you're doing it wrong. It takes some getting used to, but you practically have to keep your hand steady with the thing pointed straight upwards.

I can do it without fail 90% of the time - 10% is when I fail to keep my hand still.

I never had problems with the skyward strike, in spite of all of my control gripes. You don't even need to hold it STRAIGHT up, on an angle upwards was working for me. I could do it 100% of the time without fail.

Recalibrating is a problem? Or an inconvenience? There's a difference between the two. Just because the hardware has a limitation doesn't mean it's a problem. It'd be a problem if you couldn't recalibrate.

Too bad I wasn't doing it wrong. I'm going to just bring my counter point back up, the recalibrating feature, both the pointer and the one when you set it down, would not be so simple and easy if not for the fact Nintendo knew that these problems we're going to be common place. Not to mention, Wii Motion is not a perfect technology by any means. I'm going to agree with Sarah on every point in her previous post.

They knew the "problems" would be common because they're aware people all play differently. Some people will be able to use the motion controls properly. Others will forever fail to grasp the idea of motion controls. They're not perfect and they have hardware limitations. If someone says, "I swung the Wii remote too hard and the calibration went off," whose fault is it? The player's or the game's? They added those abilities to compensate for those who will never be able to grasp the controls well.

Played a lot today, and got to the 5th dungeon.
