Quote:In fact, MapleStory, which has 8.7 million players in North America, saw a 240 percent increase in items sold on Black Friday in 2010 compared to the same day during the previous week. The most popular item MapleStory players purchased was the Miracle Cube, with nearly 80,000 sold on Black Friday, which was an increase of 527 percent compared to the Friday previous.

Waaaaat??? They limited sales to 10 cubes per server or something. How can this be right?

They say that to make it sound like they have only a limited amount so they can increase the sales by tricking them when a crapload is actually in there.

But they don't. After 5 seconds they're all gone, and it shows SOLD OUT for the rest of the hour or 3 hours or however long they're on sale.
I don't see where they got 80,000 cubes sold... unless they mean cubes sold at regular price because people were already hyped to cube their stuff and already had NX and... yeah.

I know after I got one of the cheap cubes on sale (and you can only get one or two before they're all gone), I buy more 'cause one's never enough.

You know their strategy is actually vastly different from brick and mortar store.

Just try saying that in a real store. "WE HAVE STUFF ON SALE (limit 10). WE HAVE MORE BUT AFTER THE FIRST 10 THEY'RE REGULAR PRICE!"
