Unscheduled Server Maintenance - 11.03.2011

Some of my equips are a significant part of my character.
I may not have a Mark of the Beta but I do have all sorts of no-longer-obtainable items which have high sentimental value (and in the case of my Lunchbox, actual usefulness). My main, to me, isn't just a random level 200 hero with too much dex and perma Sith-lord NX. It's quests, achievements, buddy list, guild and alliance, and yes, items collected along the way.

Hey, look, it's a big list of things that wouldn't be affected by wiping items and mesos. Bravo.

As for the items you've mentioned, I get it, I really do.
I have no-longer-obtainable items as well.
However, getting so sentimental over the objects in a game is just silly.

I also don't see what good such a wipe would do to the game. Those who are able to pour real-life money into the game, or hack/scam/exploit it, will quickly emerge on top again, and the poor will still be helpless to get even the most basic of gear. We see this in new worlds, with no MTS, everyone starts with 0 items and meso - and yet the same types always get ahead.

A wipe would only help the game if Nexon was willing to crack down on most of those things you listed. Otherwise, you're right, it wouldn't do any good.

But, currently, the game is filled with items and mesos that simply should not exist.
The only way to truly eliminate them would be a wipe.
After the wipe, if Nexon were actually competent, it would be much easier to deal with anomalies.

I'm not sure why you mention scammers and NX-buyers. Neither of those are issues.
The former because they don't actually change the market (and everyone should know better) and the latter because their existence is intended.
NX items such as cubes exist for the express purpose of giving certain advantages to people who pay.
Whether or not the extent to which NX benefits them should be changed is a whole different discussion.

I honestly don't give a damn about who is "on top" in this game since, as you said, people can get ahead simply by throwing cash at the game.
My point was simply that, if Nexon felt that pressing a big reset button on the economy would help them stabilize it, I would understand that action, and it wouldn't hurt me terribly.
However...

I'd be okay with a server wipe if Nexon out of NOWHERE got a fully competent customer service team, full response team, a development team, and actually got STAFF. Also, if they fixed,patched, and prevented every single type of exploit/hack/glitch that would surmise in the future. Buuuuut unfortunately imagination isn't reality. That will never happen. :|

I agree with you, no compensation would be large enough to make up for the loss of my character, but, omgguesswhat?

You don't understand. It IS impossible to restore characters! But, the people who lost their characters are so important to nexon, that they'll run through a swamp of alligators to make the impossible possible...just for them! "You matter to us!"

and even if you got the lvl 70+ ones... in Mardia I didn't saw any lvl 70 + ones... maximun I saw a lvl 65...

I don't think sentimental is the right word.

Virtually all MMOs retain customers by exploiting people's notion of sunk costs. "I spent all this time getting to level X or getting equip with attack Y, if I quit now it'd all be for nothing." It's even worse for people with truly irreplaceable event items. It's the accomplishment, and the contribution it makes in the continuing e-plantain contest of the online game. Objectively worthless, silly, etc, but hey, you're going to find a lot of people subject to that criticism on a board about a game that is basically only about that.

A useful scenario is to wonder if the game would be worth playing if you indeed did lose your character or stuff (if you haven't already). If you'd quit the game outright in that situation, you should try to find other things in the game to enjoy, you're more or less unfulfilled if fear of sunk costs is nearly all that gets you onto a game.

Your Gold Surfboard and a Lunchbox would be completely useless to your Dark Knight.
Your Agares is replaceable.

I'm very aware of the concept of sunken cost, but it's not a factor here.

only thing that'd even make a full inventory wipe even at all fair to the players, would be if they reimbursed EVERYONE who has EVER spent nexon cash on maplestory with the FULL BALANCE of EVERY CASH TRANSACTION that has EVER TAKEN PLACE on their account.

They still take just as much time to replace as the characters themselves, so what's the difference from a full wipe?

At least half my gear is irreplaceable thanks to various changes in the game, some of it would be expensive to replace due to other various changes... (I'm thinking Evolving Rings, Adventurer Ring, Maker'd gear with more stats than you can ever get on new stuff, weapon scrolled with 100%s that are no longer available, iTCG gear that's near impossible to find, or completely impossible to forge due to removal of boss drops...)

Game's up I have my hero back looks like everything is there. As for the losing blessing thing hime lied again I still have mine though my hero isn't on the ranks. families are intact too as well as guild stuff.
