I feel comforted to know that it's possible to restore characters. Or at least, that Nexon thinks they can restore deleted characters.

You don't understand. It IS impossible to restore characters! But, the people who lost their characters are so important to nexon, that they'll run through a swamp of alligators to make the impossible possible...just for them! "You matter to us!"

Hasn't it only been done in rare cases? It seems like a mythical occurrence to me rather than something Nexon does on a regular basis. Regardless, I hope that this restoration of characters can kickstart a better, reliable "character recovery" system in the game.

Oh god... even when they are trying to right the stupid mistakes they continually make, their incompetence amazes me.

Restored without a rollback? Hmmm. They'll fail to restore the ones that had their names taken, that's for sure. But which others?
Also, "character links cannot be restored"? Does that mean (besides the obvious such as Blessings) the breaking of Families and Guilds?

The regularity of it occurring is irrelevant.
The point is that they have, in multiple instances, said that it was impossible despite the fact that it clearly is not.

I'd like to hope with you, but I find that doubtful.
From their perspective, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to build up an infrastructure for something that should never have to be used.

What they actually need is stricter rules for deleting a character in the first place.

I actually remembered someone with the same ign twice. apparently he name changed to xxx name but he made a char with the xxx name right after he used the name change. And when you type his ign in the rankings it gives out an error. I forgot the ign though.

You might get a free character slot if you dont delete the name holder...no wait, I can see them restoring you Paladin over one of your other chars in the first slot. lol

I can see so many ways they can mess this up, causing a lot more harm to a lot more innocents... and I also know they will outdo my worst expectations...
Why, oh why, didn't they rollback as soon as Hime learned of the issue, just a couple hours after server-up? Stupid pride...

Have you even paid attention to the rest of the thread? Or to the other various threads on the MAJOR problem that occurred? I think familiars are pretty low on the list of importance right now.

I don't agree that it is redundant. The Smegas can be viewed in a persistent window. You can scroll back your chat window and see them. This is particularly useful for Item Smegas. The Echo system means a quick 4 second message that flashes by and you will never see it again. If you miss it when it happens, you cannot go back and look for it.
