SaptaZapta Wrote:"sidekick" system sounds like it will be nothing more than a new party type for lower levels.
When someone invades your Jesters map, instead of you saying "cc please" and he "party please", you will both say "sidekick please" (assuming more than 5 levels between you) for that extra 50%(?) exp.
Maintaining a sidekick relationship for any length of time would be impractical, especially with the artificial 5-level limitation, unless you happen to have a friend who is able to train at the exact same times you do. Note that if the level gap goes too far beyond 5, the high-level partner begins losing out on mob exp when they train together, due to the brilliant anti-bot mechanism.
Also, I must object to the term "sidekick". As far as I know, that word does not describe a symmetrical relationship. Robin is Batman's sidekick, but Batman is not Robin's sidekick. Calling him "the high-level sidekick" doesn't make the word fit. Call it "training partner", call it "blood brother" (or sibling), just don't call it "sidekick".
i dunno, but wouldn't robin and batman be referred to as sidekicks or a team? one is stronger than the other, but it doesn't mean the sidekick relation is one-way. there's this comic about lesbian sidekicks i used to read.

I admit English is not my first language, but in every context I have ever heard or read the term "sidekick" used, it always referred to the inferior of the team, the hero/protagonist/main-char/villain's friend/helper/follower/lackey. The lesbians referring to themselves as each other's sidekicks might be some kind of joke or a jab at the male obsession with hierarchy, just a wild guess here.

No, you are right. A sidekick is the lesser in a hero-sidekick relationship, hence "side". Just like a sallad can be the sideorder for the main dish, actually.

english isn't my main either, i am wondering as you do. heck, after writing sidekick so much i am now reading it as "side kicks" (i.e. kicks to the side) and is throwing me out of whack.
i also know of the hero-sidekick relationship, i was just wondering if "sidekick" couldn't be "mutual" so to speak.
as for the lesbians, they were the main character, and the guy that drew the webcomic is insane, so lol

Level 140 armour scheduled to be in gach...I wonder how bad the rates will be. Might be good times if the capes pop out at a decent rate though.

Or we could just look in the dictionary and see what it means rather than how we see it used;
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sidekick
side·kick noun
1. a close friend.
2. a confederate or assistant.
Note the or is neither exclusive nor mandatory. One implication of the word is not the sum of the word's meaning.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Trouble is, dictionaries often give meanings that are not entirely in touch with current usage.
If you, living in the USA, casually mention "my sidekick" in conversation, would people react the same way as if you said "my friend" or "my confederate" or even "my assistant"?
I think not. I think they are more likely to take it to mean what Wikipedia says it does:
wikipedia Wrote:A sidekick is a close companion who is generally regarded as subordinate to the one he accompanies. Some well-known fictional sidekicks are Don Quixote's Sancho Panza, Sherlock Holmes' Doctor Watson, The Lone Ranger's Tonto, The Green Hornet's Kato, Shrek's Donkey and Batman's Robin.
Would any of your friends take kindly to being referred to as your sidekicks?

"Assistant" would be the most likely interpretation, yes, with "companion" being the second most common. But then most of my friends are old enough to have vocabularies that extend outside of comics, cartoons and television in general.
I am not going to have this semantic argument again. What you perceive a word to mean has no bearing on it's actual definition. What the dictionary says is the definition. Anything else is a bastardization or misunderstanding. Just because uneducated idiots use "their" instead of "they're" doesn't change it from being a homophone to a synonym.
SaptaZapta Wrote:Would any of your friends take kindly to being referred to as your sidekicks?
They tend to take it just fine, yes.

We don't know how the drop rate will be like in gMS (especially for the good boss cards). It could be different from jMS, and be rare like treasure monsters spawning.

Everyone needs to complain to Nexon about the familiar expiration so they'll remove it.

Permanent and rare as hell, or expiring and common? Choose one. The first is JMS. The second is how GMS should implement this.
