Whereas in the UK I've heard both but we still use the logical DD/MM/YYYY

I hate that format, ascending order of cardinality is all wrong.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

I agree with this post and the post Eos posted previously, reading left to right using a DMY system provides no meaningful information until the entire thing is read or at least the month is read, even the American MDY gives a better picture of what is going on. YMD is the best format. Sorting in this format also is significantly more ordered. I think narrowing in on a date rather than jumping through your minds calendar is the most efficient use of brain power.

You guys have no idea how much I hate the U.S. system. I mean, why all the different numbers, conversions, etc? This was by far the most useless thing I learned in middle school. The metric system is easier and more usefull. Also, here we have the DD-MM-YYYY.

Why U.S. can't just do what's easier and best? A weird country indeed.

Indeed. And for those who say "You need to read the whole thing to know what's going on", you need to read more. A LOT MORE.

The same reason that we just use the UN to get other countries to do what we want, but just ignore when it tries to make us do stuff.
