Eugh, I'm finaly getting a good phone that can do more then sms/talk.
i'm upgrading to the xperia play and I've already downloaded an Emulator for PSX,Genesis,Dreamcast(don't ask where I got this one),N64,GameGear,NeoGeo,SNES,NES,GBA.. basicaly the classic consoles. but asides from that I'm not sure what other apps are worth downloading.
the things I keep myself busy with are running two servers at home, news, maple, architecture.
i'm basicaly a gamer at heart, my main use for the phone is Skype and I'd really appreciate it if you guys can recomende me some fun/usefull(time saving,utility)/pratical/lulzy apps.
so asides from skype that's pre installed, what's app, emulators and a light saber app. I don't really have anythin else.
so share with me apps you think I might like or just your favorite android apps in general!

emulators work on droids? My fiance and I have droids and we can't find any emulators that actually work.
I just got mine so I don't really have any "cool apps" but what I have downloaded is : Google Sky maps, Offender search. Stupid zombies (like angry birds), TiKL (like a nextel where it turns your phone into a walkie talkie), Urban dictionary and some random camera apps for kick ass effects.

Yea, I don't get it. My fiance and I had the same exact one at one point. His worked PERFECT, mine would need to be rebooted every hour every day. It was a huge piece of sh*t.

Iphone is useless for me because it's so un-customizable, the OS is lame (in my opinion) and I dislike apple.
BB Torch was considered since it and the X-Play have almost identical specifications however I went with the X-Play because I found the slide out keys much more usefull for my needs. and a tiny qwerty won't do me any good, my hands are gentle/accurate but they're pretty big. also I prefer anything with a playstation suite because it's comfy to use, easy to break/hack. and I'm just used to them ( PS3 owner aswell as the owner of multiple PSPs )
ASIDES FROM THAT! Thank you everyone keep em comming ^_^

so jailbreak the iphone. gives the best of both worlds as far as third party support goes. i hate apple too, that's why i feel better about sticking it to them haha

it's just, I have experience working with sony's hardware (helping with creating CFW and hacking the PSP's OFW)
anyway, I don't want this to derail so can we stop talkin about competitors and just talk about android apps. I like making my phone into a swiss army knife.

Just taking a look at my list of apps, I have the following that I think might be useful:
AdFree: Ad blocker
Alarm Clock Plus
Barcode Scanner: Here in Vancouver, there arent many places that uses barcode scanners, but the numbers are increasing, and its good to have/fun to play around with
Cineplex mobile: Movie info...I'm not sure if it's just a Canadian thing, but Im able to connect my scene card (movie card that lets you collect points towards free movies) to it, so I can actually scan my phone if I forget my card.
Desktop Visualizer: Some app to change the size of icons
g-strings: It's a tuner...being a music major, it's really handy.
Mobile Metronome
ESPN ScoreCenter: For sports scores
Pure Calendar: enhanced Calendar widgets (for looks/presentation on the home screen)
Quadrant Standard: For seeing how fast your phone can run
Ventriloid: Ventrilo
Beautiful Widgets: Nice looking clock/weather widget
Also suggesting you get: the app for your bank. Doing banking on the phone is really handy.
Am wondering if I need anti-virus on my phone. Do people actually make viruses for android?...

there are some malwares out there, but its fairly low risk. some of them can be pretty bad and typically send stupidly expensive texts. i dont have avg because ive run into any malware/viruses, i have it because i saw it in the app market for free and figured why not?

i use dolphin browser HD for my internatz needs (instead of the built-in browser). the only other app that i use regularly is the amazon app market, and then i only check that once a day for the free app.
aside from these two, there aren't any apps i frequently use that aren't already built-in. most would be "special interest," i guess. (foursquare, urbanspoon, dropbox, netflix)

Droid Wall, that is all. Especially if you happen to be on a metered/tiered data plan.

As long as you stick to the regular application market or other trusted sources, and read the comments/permissions before installing applications, you don't really have to worry.

High-five.
I also recommend Dolphin/Firefox for the use of Lastpass. Pretty much every log-in on the web can be done effortlessly, which is mind-blowingly handy when it comes to phone web-browsing.
