Thanks guys. :3
I have a playable version of my old game that I made for a class. If you guys wanna play it, I can upload it if you want. I made it in game maker, lol.

Also, anyone know a cheap easy program that makes GIF animations and stuff? Tried paint.net but it's really confusing. :/

i'll be honest, when i read "inspired by loose" i expected breasts, not dissappointed though, they are pretty nice and greatly shaded

Okay, it's here.
Downroad
It's got 3 levels filled with bad collision detection, extremely simple gameplay, and a story that we made up at 3 AM the night before it was due.

New walking animation. I tried to go with a Paper Mario style for it, lol.

It gets stuck everywhere, but the idea is pretty cool bro.

Idea's good, the character is awesome. The getting stuck everywhere problem is because of the uneven terrain, it tends to do that. : P

Another problem I had was trying to distinguish what's good, what's bad, what's a platform and what's not.

Yeah that was a problem that had something to do with Game Maker's poor basic collision detection.
Things that move = bad. D:

I'm planning to use either Flixel or FlashPunk for the game I'm gonna re-make it as, but I'm not sure which one is more user friendly or has more potential.

FlashPunk is simpler. Flixel has more potential.

Then there's Stencyl, I haven't used that, though.

I used Flixel a long time ago and I got as far as a UI before my computer had crashed on me and I quit it, lol. I'll try out FlashPunk and Stencyl I guess!

Random test background. I wanted to have a big story, but I feel like it'd be too complicated for this kind of game. :<

A big story'd be amazing! If you can't fit a huge story on a game like that, do it in the beginning scenes or the ending.
You can try adding more life to the water, by adding some light blue traces, white traces, and dark blue traces. :o

Yup, definitely needs more light blue (almost white) lines, from where it reflects the moon.

Like the concept, though!
