R.I.P. Borders

R.I.P. Borders. Borders requested liquidation starting Friday (today). The closing of the bookstore franchise is expected to result in a net loss of jobs for 10,700 people and freeing up 6.3 million square feet for U.S. rental space. Key mistakes that have been sourced to the bookstore closing is sourcing out online book purchases to Amazon.com and losing out a Starbucks deal to Barnes & Noble.

Yeah, one right next to me is selling everything.
They had a sign in front of mine for the past week warning about the closing and it said "Please do not come in to use our bathrooms. If you need to use the restroom, try contacting Amazon.com"

Ouch.

You'd never notice in Charlotte. If you ever went to Northlake Mall, Borders is always jammin'. The only alternative really is Books-A-Million which is crowded and aging. Borders had a nice feel. R.I.P.

I'm going to miss Borders dearly. I bought some really great books there...

The Borders closest to me closed down months ago and it was the only nearby bookstore that was in reasonable driving distance. It's really a shame because I loved going to Borders and it was my choice bookstore most of the time. When it was announced that it'd be closing down and everything was on sale, I bought test prep books that I'd need in the future, manga, and novels I wanted to get around to reading.

Unfortunately, Borders dying out because of Amazon.com and eBooks is sad because I've always loved looking for books, previewing them, and selecting them physically at a book store. Borders is a store I could really enjoy spending an hour or two in. It was probably one of my favorite places to go to whenever I didn't feel like hanging around my house.

It's all those guys who sat there reading books for 5-6 hours yet never bought anything.

Friggin' people in the middle of the manga aisle reading with their legs sprawled out.

Posting this from my Nook color, never to visit a bookstore with the intent of purchasing something again.

My girlfriend is bummed about them closing as she loved the place for all of her books - I enjoyed walking in there and finding cool things (along with the occasional book). Guess we'll be checking out their clearance quite a few times.

Crap! Crap! The only bookstore near me is Borders! It's even closer than the frigging library!

I know right? I think everyone thinks it's because of them being coffehouse and bookstore snobs, but in reality it just rains to goddamn much.
