I concur that weed is not addicting. It's bad, but not addicting.

Yes it is very much less addicting than Cigarettes but it is still addicting and once you ARE addicted its pretty hard to stop...
My sister/aunt/mom all 3 are ex pot heads/meth heads/etc I know what I am talking about...
heck my mom I think STILL IS a pot/meth head my sister has been clean for about a year and 1/2 my aunts been clean nearly 3 1/2
They still go to N/A meetings they still make time for stuff like that...
They both said meth was harder to kick but weed got them into meth since they wanted a better high. =\

The reason lungs get screwed up in smoking is because of the tar in smoke, most often cigarette smoke. It hinders the lungs' own cilia and destroys them and particles just build up in the bronchi and bronchioles of the lung. Then you've got replacement scar tissue forming and some of these can be cancerous when they replicate at abnormal rates to offset the damage. I don't believe that eating things with psychoactive drugs can affect your lungs since you're not taking it in through your lungs and they're ingested in your stomach to release the psychoactive agents that affect the neurotransmitters in your nerve cells only.

If you smoke something for a long time, or do something that's natural to you for a long time, then of course it can be psychologically addicting and you'll most likely suffer from withdrawal and social dependence. However, cannabis is not physically addicting, and people can already be predisposed of being psychologically dependent on it in the first place.

Meth and cannabis are two completely different drugs. Meth is a drug that will cause physical addiction since it actually decreases the concentration of certain neurotransmitters in the nerves permanently.

Let me refer to my psychology notes:

Marijuana - THC - Hallucinogen- Unlike Heroine, Cocaine, Nicotine which are stimulants, and mimic neurotransmitter causing natural endorphins and neurotransmitters to stop being released by neurons, causing a dependancy, addiction, and withdrawals, Marijuana is not addicting however- causes light-headedness, and tampers with the occipital lobes causing user to see hallucinations. Is not an agonist or antagonist. Does not block or mimic neurotransmitters and sites.

The most addictive part of reefer is that you'll miss the state of mind you're placed in while partaking. It's less addictive than caffeine. I smoked for like...2 or 3 years on a regular basis, but when I wanted to give it up, I didn't experience anything an addict would. No chills, no sickness, no cravings, etc.

a slight elaboration on what kasey said with less specific terms, from another psychology student. weed is not physically addicting, the same as other drugs, but it has addictive tendencies. thc when it gets to the brain, emulates the chemical released to make you feel good/happy/relaxed etc. which gives you the high state. problem being, that the body is constantly seeking homeostasis. after a while, your body realizes that you are giving it something that makes it happy, relaxed, etc, without its help. your brain decides that since its getting these chems anyway that it doesnt need to make them itself anymore, so it reallocates the energy it would have spent to create these chems to something else. so when you try to stop doing the weed, your body is more inclined to want that drug again so it still wont have to make the chems. and it takes a little while for your brain to decide to allocate that energy back to the process.

tl:dr, it may not be addicting the way most things are, but that does not mean, its not completely incapable of causing addiction.

A girl I know of was a heavy smoker of marijuana and tobacco as well as being a heavy drinker. She fell pregnant and didnt think she would be able to kick all three habits at the same time. The doctor advised her that of the 3, the least damaging was marijuana but she should endeavour to quit that asap.
Thats only his opinion though. So ~shrugs~?

Anyways, I smoked weed when I was younger, I never got addicted but then again I didn't do it all the time. My bf at the time smoked it all day every day for years and that lead him into doing other drugs. He did say that he couldn't quit smoking pot because "he was addicted". Who knows though. Everyone's body is different.

To contribute to the point of this thread, drugs suck. They've ruined the lives of a couple friends of mine, played an annoying factor in relationships, and are too often used as an excuse to help rid one of depression. If the only thing that'll put you in a good mood for a couple of hours is getting high, then it's obvious you need a little bit more than some cannabis to help you with your oh-so-horrible teenage problems. Nicotine is used in pesticide which can be addictive when mixed with other chemicals.

Weed has bud and different "herbs" that make it addictive.
