PSN Down for 5 days and more to come

Since last wed PSN has been down due to hackers.

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th.

The community over on the psn blog remind me of how most of you act when maple is down. Few comments that irk me below:

"Wow horrible PR for real. All you got to say? ETA, anything else? If i was gettin paid $100,000 + a year, i would update the community with more then a sentence or two every few days."

"Oh wow. This is their update?"

"I just want to go….How will you compensation for being inconvenience?"

Then they finally give a better update on what they are doing

We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.

"Jerks > you said 1 or 2 days… ON WEDNESDAY and its about to be sunday"

Some people were complaining that sony should update them daily about what they are doing. Which they have, but its just the same information over and over and people are whining about it but they ask for sony to give them daily updates now they dont want it?

Whats even worst is the hackers who claim that sony is at fault for letting this happen in the first place.

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

Just wanted to start a discussion on the whole matter.

All of those CoD players must be whining extensively at this point. I don't particularly care too much myself, other than I wanted to buy more DLC for neptunia and see if Dissidia got any DLC updates, but can't for the meantime. Oh well.

Its still down. Wow, I feel sorry for everyone w/ the PS3. I heard it was some stupid 19 year old guy who hacked MW2 to make a 10th lobby. They said he was getting sued so he hacked PSN and thats the reason its down. (From what I heard)

You mean people STILL don't know who did it? I thought it'd be obvious by now that it was Anonymous's doing.
Quite frankly, this doesn't affect me as I don't play "Online Only" games. Games I play have either Offline only or Offline AND Online play.

Guess it was a good thing I haven't really been playing the PS3 this past week. It's really unbelievable how slowly/badly this is being handled. I can sympathize with the really active players, cause if an MMO of mines is down for a week I'd be very mad as well. Disregard.

See this is why i have an Xbox and nothing has ever happened like this since I've had my Xbox in 09

You mean people STILL don't know who did it? I thought it'd be obvious by now that it was Anonymous's doing.
Quite frankly, this doesn't affect me as I don't play "Online Only" games. Games I play have either Offline only or Offline AND Online play.

This actually only hinders my watching of Netflix stuffs. :'(

Are you kidding me? Do you expect the issue to just fix itself? They have to rebuild the entire PSN in order to prevent future attacks, one can only imagine how big a task that is. You have no idea what you're talking about if you think this is being handled slowly or badly, because neither of those words describe Sony's actions right now.

Two big titles came out Mortal Kombat and Portal 2 the timing was perfect. When a new game comes out extreme gamers beat offline in a day and mostly play online.

I just want to setup my streaming media to my ps3. I just got net last wed and in order to link up my ps3 to my network i have to go through the connection test and before the UNP connection test psn server fail. I transfer all my stuff to my external hardrive in the mean time.

I have a feeling as soon as PSN is back up it will crash because of the amount of traffic which i hope sony is ready for. I'm also surprised so many people play on the PSN thought everyone was on the 360 train

I had no idea it's that arduous a task to rebuild the PSN, so I apologize for my fail on the matter.

More people want to play online when they have new games to play. Before these two titles it was mostly cod players. Most of the players are complaining about not being able to play these two titles and mvc3 which is still fairly new, no one has been complaining about not being able to play cod for a good 5 pages of comments. If psn was down when two major titles didn't come out the rage wouldn't be as huge. Its like when maple is down during a school week or final weeks, It doesn't affect that many players

This looks like it takes a helluva lot of work just for the upkeep, so I can't really get mad at some jerk getting in through a temporary hole in security. Hope they get this fixed to the best of their abilities.

I don't think they're hacking anymore, Sony just has the servers down because they're reconstructing the service.
