Screaming in Music
#1
Every since I listened to my first "screaming" song, Ex's and Oh's (or Honor? me forgot) by Atreyu a few years ago, I've been hooked on Metal..
Metal.. Metalcore.. Hardcore.. Punk.. Hard Rock.. even Screamo if it's good..

It has come to a point where I NEED some form of screaming in the music I listen to today..
Sure, if Born This Way comes on the radio, I don't mind listening to that..

But if I had a preference, I'd like to listen to a song involving both screaming & singing.
But if there was a song like Still Fly by Devil Wears Prada which is mostly screaming, I wouldn't mind a song that was just screaming..
And vise versa, I usually love when a band (that screams) has a ballad like If It Means Alot to You by A Day to Remember..

How do you all feel about screaming in music?
I don't know how else to say it haha, basically the music genres I listed above.. how you feel about them..

And if you haven't a idea what I am talking about or have never heard of similar music.. I suggest:

Screaming is one of the worst scourges of music.

I've been the same way for a while, although I'll always be a big metal head, I have an urge to listen to anything with screaming. I blame that concert I went to with this girl a few months back. 5 hours of screaming =___=

It's alright sometimes, i prefer if it's not there but sometimes it suits the song.

The usual stereotypes are related or evolve around the term "emo"

Which is so stupid because most screaming parts are just about anger, many of which involve break ups..
I feel like this makes SO MUCH sense compared to mainstream radio crap where they make break ups or other sad things only sad.. there's always anger gosh darnit -.-

Screaming = Reality, in a song Wink

Here's a fucking concept: there are more emotions than just "sadness" and "anger."

I meant towards break-ups and unfortunate events..

Haha.
I think it's funny when people dislike screaming in songs due to them thinking it's "emo" or "crappy"

Just because there's screaming in songs doesn't mean that the songs cannot have meaning lyrics to them. A favorite band of mine wrote lyrics about how a guy raped his daughter (iirc), etc. But anyways, I don't mind screaming most of the time, it really depends on the metal though. Meh.

 Filth in the Beauty

 Discharge

 Headache Man

Lyrics for "Filth in the Beauty"

Though I can't always say the same for most metal, it just differs from person to person when it comes to what kinda bands they enjoy. I used to listen to Lamb of God and Pantera a lot when I was younger.

It's a common misconception for people, because they generalize anything that has screaming in a song, that it must be about anger. To me, it's just a style. It's like how there's different genres of music ; So if there's a lot of Pop songs, are they all going to be about the same subject? Of course not.

Even some metal bands such as All That Remains, some of their songs aren't always about anger. Like this one:

I can stand it if they add it in to stress something emotional, but if a band's singing solely consists of screaming, I can't stand it at all.

I take songs from bands more on a case by case basis. If it's good, the band gets better in my eyes.

it's sad because a lot of people don't like a particular genre or aspect of a song because of the cultural connotations that go along with it. whatever, music's music. it really self-defeating to say "this kind of music sucks".

I like me some heavy music, but I don't like screamo.

It's like in Slipknot's Psychosocial... the chorus is AWESOME. That guy has some serious talent there, too bad it's all misused in screaming.
