What would you do if McCain-Palin was elected?

You guys seem to care about this more than the situation warrants. Federal politics seems very important, but it's your local government that decides much more about how your life will be run. Local government decides parking provisions, school issues, zoning, etc. etc. Doesn't that matter more to you than a federal government that decides things that don't affect you all that much? No, seriously, how many people here have felt a direct impact from the war in Iraq that exceeds something like laws that affect their schools? It's easy to have an opinion on the federal issues, but you need to examine its actual impact on your everyday life.

Also, when you vote locally your vote counts MUCH more than on the federal lvl. Think for a moment, when you vote federally, your vote is probably absorbed. I live in Illinois, Obama's home state. If I vote Republican, my vote doesn't matter, if I vote Democrat my vote doesn't matter. It only matters in states like Ohio, where the electoral distribution is fairly even. Compare that to your local elections, where your vote is one of 30,000 or something. I've also seen people come to town hall and personally make arguments. Good luck doing that with the US Senate. Tangibly, the only federal vote of yours that counts is your Congressman, (not your Senator's,) because that person represents a fairly small constituency, and he actually has to care about your vote. I am from the state of Illinois, and I can confidently tell you that Barack Obama does not give a pomegranate about me as a voter. Unless he's caught screwing a prostitute he'll get reelected as long as he does what he is doing.

The Founders actually detested the Federal government, and they felt that the state governments should have more impact. Trust in the federal government over local government is a fairly recent phenomenon, and to be honest it's not warranted. Obama is NOT on your side, McCain is NOT on your side, and Bush is NOT on your side. The way their job operates is they want to displease as few people as possible, so if they can get away with it they'll do nothing at all. Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, the VP candidates, have almost no real function if their candidates get elected. Their real function is to compensate their presidential candidates' weaknesses during the election. Joe Biden is a "fighter" where Obama is seen otherwise. And Palin is a woman and further right than McCain, which serves both to appease the far right which doesn't like McCain, and to try and steal disenchanted female voters who wanted Clinton in the white house.

If it came down to McCain being elected I'd have two options.
1) Move to Mexico where the weather is pleasant, beaches are calming, and fireworks are legal.
2) Move to Canada and become a Canadian citizen. I wouldn't mind the cold winters and being surrounded by asians.

We just have to remember our wishes. Sometimes the next one that comes along is wore than the one we had before. we'll just have to wait and see...

Doesn't matter if you're European, African, Asian, Australian, Canadian, or South American. America is the only superpower on the planet and if they elect bad leadership, it will negatively affect the entire world. Here's hoping for Obama and not the warmonger.

i'd probly enjoy it a little more than an obama presidency. not to offend anyone, i just dont like his politics, in essence i'd agree with mechmike, to some extent. either way im going to start mass spamming senators, house reps and the white house with letters via snail mail and email.

I would be very happy. I would probably be happy for a week or so and celebrate in many ways. It would be possible for me this happy because he is so experienced and Obama is not at all. He would have a better chance with Vladmir Putin and the finishing of the Iraq war than Obama would ever have. Also a lot more things but i don't want to explain every last thing here. Just know that McCain should win.

the billions of dollars spent in the war could have been better spent in our own country. we have serious problems in this country but apparently it is not top priority to fix the problems in our own country. i am not saying that Obama can get us out of this hole we are in, but it is time for a change.

I still don't understand what all the fuss is about. You voting does something about the situation, so go vote. You trying to convince the other party's members will no do something about the situation because their minds are made up. All my years observing politics taught me that it's better to maintain a safe distance from political discussion and issues.

Well at least Nixon was thrown out for the madness that was Watergate. I still don't get how Dubya didn't get into such trouble though.

And I don't really think Americans frown upon the whole sexual concepts deal, as all these sex references are thrown at us by the media, and considering how skanky certain people dress...

After watching the debate lastnight... if they get elected I'm moving out of the United States. She/him/they are horrible.

Palin really flunked the debate...hard. She barely answered any questions, brought the discussion to a different topic, and always referred to McCain's "Great Policies".

I will hope and agitate for McCain returning to his pre-Bush views, over the last decade he's gone in a direction I don't like and if he went back I could almost support him being president.
