I am not certain this source is accurate. I tried to find another source to back up this one or at least another story about this and was not successful. That leads me to believe that this so called email my not be entirely true. If you can find another source I would like to know, but so far all of the other sites that have this "email" all link back to this source.

You may want to reread his post. All sources I've looked at on your google link so far link back to http://wispolitics.com/index.iml?Article=230087
He wanted a source that didnt link back to wispolitics.com.
Aside from that, all I can say is that things have become hell in Wisconsin and this issue needs to be resolved. Its just that obviously its not being resolved in any civil manner.

Odd, where do you see it linking back in the second link or third link?

Wisconsin Senate Leader Scott Fitzgerald told the Republican caucus in an email that the 14 fleebagging Democrats remain in contempt and cannot vote in committee.
Try the red letters (I bolded them) in that link in the first sentence.

Sen. Fitzgerald: Email re: Senate Democrat voting privileges
Same thing here, the red letters that I bolded here.

How I feel about this is determined on whether or not Republicans can restrict voting based on being in contempt of senate. If they legally can, then I am fine with this. If they legally cannot, then I recommend they take it to the courts, the courts would rule in their favor, and they would be allowed to vote again. Personally I'm not that all outraged.

Even if it is legal, I would not agree with their actions. I simply believe that the people have the right to be represented, and preventing anyone from voting is an infringment on our democratic processes and infringes upon the people's right to be represented.
I do want to remain on the fence about a lot of this... but a lot of issues I've been hearing about in Wisconsin disturbed me. The governor had no problem threatening the people with the National Guard. I heard reports that police had no problems open firing on the protestors (thankfully that didnt happen). And simply put I've heard a lot of things that disturb me with the government's actions.
Although, I want to stay on the fence over the specific issue they are debating over, since I have never seen where wisconsin's money goes, and as I'm not a tax payer of that state, its not my business. Although, I'm quite certain that the protestors have become too dependent upon government aid, and the Governor is trying to only cut completely insignificant portions of the budget, and make it look like he is a hero for supposedly balancing the budget.

I'm not sure where you heard the police had "no problems" opening fire on protestors, because that's simply not true. I mean, as you said, that didn't happen (I'm a living testament to that), but the police have always been on our side as protestors. They even refused to travel to Illinois and arrest the 14 Democratic state senators that fled to prevent quorum. The worst the police have done, with "worst" being in a "per se" quotes, is forcefully remove protestors 1-2 weeks ago to help clear the capitol. But otherwise they've always been on our side - I've talked to a lot of police while being in the capitol, and they've always been kind, informative, and supportive.
And p.s. the protestors aren't dependent on government aid. I have no idea where you came up with that idea; I'd like to see your source. We're dependent upon collectively bargaining for the wages we have, which aren't enough to become "upper class" like many paint us to be. We're normal, hard-working, middle-lower class residents who simply want to maintain the lifestyle we have and not suffer economic misfortunes that make it difficult to live. That's what this whole issue is about. No one's asking for wage raises that can purchase the luxuries. Please tell me how many Wisconsin farmers, teachers, and snow plow drivers have yachts on Lake Michigan - the answer is 0.
OT: They're able to vote again, thankfully: http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/local/g...03286.html

I cant find any articles about police saying it... so it looks like my memory failed me in this case.

Maybe I should rephrase that, as aid was a bad term to use. I mostly was refering to the benefits state workers get that are paid for by the state and that people where a little too dependent on the states money. The only problem with that is obviously what we are witnessing now, the fact that you've become dependent on someone that wishes to rob you of those benefits and that he is technically accountable to no one (except maybe during elections).
There is also the issue of the budget, but I doubt the government worker wages are a significant portion.

What the pineapple is wrong with America?
Republicans have been attempting to strip voting rights from all sorts of groups that are likely to vote democratic next election. One state is attempting to make it so that prisoners who have been freed can't vote until they've been free for 5 years and haven't committed any crimes. The majority of the people who this would affect? Black people, who are obviously more likely to vote for Obama by virtue.
Disgusting pomegranate like this shouldn't be able to happen. Republicans constantly preach about freedom and the constitution yet for this entire presidency they've been scheming to take the freedom away from those who oppose them.

Sarah's completely right. Wisconsin is also trying to pass a bill called Senate Bill 6, SB6, also known as the Voter ID bill, which requires all Wisconsin voters to show a Wisconsin drivers license at the polls in order to vote. That's a complete change from our current voter registration laws, which allow voters to register at polls through the day of the election with student ID cards (if they live in residence halls), or any other official document that verifies one's address at that location (such as an apartment lease, a gas and electric bill, etc.). It may not seem like such a boneheaded idea asking for photo ID to vote, as we have to show our ID when using credit cards, but if you look closer you'll notice that Wisconsin has no issues with voter fraud, which is what you'd imagine as the logical catalyst prompting legislation like this. In our last election in November 2010, the state had 14 cases of voter fraud. 14. That's less than 0.00000001% or some ridiculously tiny number, made even smaller by the fact that we were one of the top voter turnout states in the nation, due, of course, to our flexible, simple, yet legitimate voter registration laws.
So what's wrong with transforming voter registration and voting to JUST a Wisconsin driver's license? First off, it disenfranchises students beyond a shadow of a doubt. Student populations tend to be some of the most transient in the state, as we usually live in a different location during each academic year (even a different dorm room in the same building), which means we need to re-register to vote every single year. If the only form of identification allowed for voter registration and voting is an ID that costs $25, $30, whatever the DMV charges, and is only obtainable at a location several miles outside campus, what do you think is going to happen to student voter turnout at the polls? It'll drop significantly.
And just to clarify, polls throughout the past decade have shown students vote Democrat 75% of the time.
tl;dr, Republicans in Wisconsin have not only succeeded in breaking unions, the largest sole contributor to the Democratic party, but are now targeting another noticeably large group of the Democrat's voting base - the students. To a lesser degree this bill affects minorities and immigrants as well, as it's statistically more difficult for those groups to also obtain driver's licenses, for reasons including ID fees and citizenship red tape (I'm not advocating for illegal immigrants to vote, I'm talking about the red tape involved with verifying any citizenship, which can be burdensome to the point of delaying the acquisition of an ID for recent, legitimate immigrants). And of course this is not even raising the valid contention that this bill is unconstitutional, violating poll tax fees in requiring a specific form of ID - one that citizens must pay for - in order to vote.
It's disgusting and, like you said Sarah, hypocritical of many fundamental Republican platforms.

I just read the bill and it states that a valid ID can also be in the form of an Identification Certificate, which is part of the federal "real ID" act. Said certificate can be obtained through the DOT at no charge upon request. As I have stated many times before, it does help to read the bill before you complain about it. Dont just go off of what you hear, do a little foot work first to see if the statements are true. The bill is designed to prevent voter fraud as well as eliminating those who are not legal to vote from doing so. My state requires a state issued ID in order to vote. That ID must be shown at the polling booth or you dont get to vote. This bill even states that you can vote if you dont have the ID but you must provide the ID by 4pm of the following day in order for your vote to count. This bill is pretty standard as far as most other states are concerned so I dont really see the problem here.
@sarah As for the comment about republicans trying to strip rights from the people, those very few who have tried to do that are not representing the rest of their party and in many cases are finding out that they are being voted out as their terms come to an end. Most of the republican party does lean toward the rights of the people and even more so the tea party leans that much more to the rights and constitution. Much of what is reported has a very leftist view and yes in Obamas term thus far it is the democrats who have thus far stripped the rights of the people away one piece at a time.

I kinda avoided that thread, seeing that it was going to flare up pretty quickly. But can you please source every point you made?
Regarding this topic, I find that the Republican senate is starting to get a little out of hand. Union breaking is just wrong. State workers should have the right to negotiate their salaries and benefits.

As it relates to this topic, the only source that needs to be referenced is this one:
http://legis.wisconsin.gov/2011/data/SB-6.pdf
Hope it helps. It is a bit lengthy but this is all that needs to be said.
