I guess things are probably starting to calm down a bit in terms of intensity, but the quakes are still there (~5 on the richter scale). I wonder if there's a record for the highest amount of quakes in a given area.
Also, I heard there's a second nuclear plant having problems with the cooling unit? Hopefully they have things under control by now (heard it a couple of hours ago). The media here pretty much stopped reporting anything new about Japan. They just keep looping those tsunami videos over and over again. ~sigh~

I heard from this Japanese kid that the accounted-for death toll is over 400 now. MSN says over 1000 are presumed dead. :|
I wonder how many people will be unaccounted for for a very long time... =/

That is somewhat guaranteed. Death toll is confirmed at 300, plus another 200-300 bodies at one town that hasn't been officially confirmed. Then you have another 600 missing. :\

if god existed, I would kill him for this. Japan, if some country, has had enough of these nuclear disasters already.
2012 here we come...
r.i.p Pokemon, DBZ, Mario, Zelda, Nintendo, Final Fantasy, Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, Digimon, Beyblade, billions of other animus and mangos, Sony, Sushi, Sumo, Pachinko, Para-para dancing, hot women, Metal gear Solid...
And if South-Korea goes too, R.I.P MapleStory, Nexon, SNSD, Samsung....
The list goes on D:

Theres what, 1000ish people dead ? I think you're overestimating how bad this is in terms of death count. It's obviously a tragedy, but come on...
Frankly, the nuclear bit won't be that bad assuming japans not completely braindead on precautions beforehand on how to deal with this. The worst part the nuclear power plant having an explosion is it's going to give the massively uninformed majority the OHMYGOD NUCLEAR POWER R BADZZZ ideas again holding nuclear power back for another 10+years. Ugh

I was talking about nuclear plant and I didn't know details when I was writing the post. According to some Finnish scientist, effects won't be that bad and it depends on wind and how the core melt down.

They did pretty damned good. Now to find and hang the dude who's responsible for the cooldown failures.

Ugh Nuclear Powerplants suck anyways, Uranium will be depleted within 30 years, faster then the world gets rid of oil...

At this moment...
One town has about 9,000 people confirmed missing, four trains are still missing, and there are still 200-300 bodies in Sendai that hasn't been officially tallied into the total death count (I think). Current official death toll is confirmed at 900, with 600 missing.
Death toll may exceed 10,000. This is extremely scary. :\

To be honest, 10,000 is bad, but not really TERRIBLE. If you take into account only 10k people may have died here and over 300k died in Haiti in a 7.1 earthquake... it's a really small number.

Source I read said 1 of 4 trains had been found, news seems to be a little laggy.

This feels like a big "what now" moment for the Japanese.

I don't think anyone's to blame here.
Unless the engineers had data about a similar kind of event (10m tsunamis) occuring around the area yet decided to ignore it while building those plants. (I doubt it)
/haven't watched/read any news today though. So maybe I'm missing something here.

As far as I'm concerned, 1 death is too much.

Apparently this was one hell of a quake.

I know, I don't like death at all, but putting it into a real scope, it's pretty good that the number is small.

Quote:The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) said Saturday afternoon the explosion at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant could only have been caused by a meltdown of the reactor core.

The Japanese abassador in USA reject that information - according to news 50 minutes ago at least.
