My favorite thing about maple has always been the grind. Not so much the mind numbing hours poured into maple, as challenging myself to finding the IDEAL leveling situation to reach the highest level in the fastest amount of time. I think big bang more or less removed this aspect of maple. As a result, I think its quite a bit harder to get from 1-140+ after big bang.
Who agrees with me on this and misses the old methods? Pre-BB, levels in under 15 mins happened pretty frequently even in the 11x range in the right situations (this is without leeching of course). This is FAR from the situation now.
Big Bang made things fair and less complex, not easier. Anyone who knew how to play right could destroy the leveling times now.

i dont like the old days as much as i like reminiscing about them
and as a mostly 1x user, 1-140 was far easier post bb... hell, getting a character to 50 used to be a fairly large commitment.

1-100 is a breeze, 100-120 is dam slow, 120-150 is a breeze, 150+ is dam slow for me in big bang.

I'm kind of the oposite on this one, I think 120+ post BB is more fun even if it may be slightly harder, due to the variety of training spots up until Obliv 4
*edit* yeah 100-120 was a total pain, whats the deal with that

Well... i don't really like how MS turned out with Big Bang. In the old days, we asked for easier leveling, but when we said easier, we didn't mean a shitload easier, like it is now.
When a new job was implemented before, it was interesting because getting the ring or equipment was a challenge, and you could spend a few days leveling alongside your friends because the majority of the MS version would be leveling the same job. Now, people just make it for the gear, get to 70 in 2, 3 days, and after a week there aren't many of that job unless it's ridiculously overpowered.
.
Leveling is good but... It's not interesting like it was before. I had a lot more fun leveling on Newties on a pirate for hours, than repeating the same proccess of spamming a mob skill over the map for barely one hour, since not many players can actually grind now.
It's my opinion, tho. I just don't like the way this game is going after Big Bang.

Unless you were a fire/poison, AM/bishop or anything else with an ultimate, post BB > pre BB in training speed. Also, at +150 post BB is still faster than > pre BB, unless you include buying nx for 4x or Rombot (w/e that million exp area boss was called).

I've never had a class that used an ultimate up until DB, and having an ultimate on that was annoying if anything. I still leveled much faster then than now..I did 4x alot naturally but I kind of miss having that option I guess. Right now at 125+ it takes around 80-90 minutes for each level. I remember churning out levels in one hour a pop at 12x, sometimes less.

Ah yes, a 150 training at rombot would be quite godly indeed. Lol, but I think you meant Royal Guard S. And training after BB is much slower than before, seeing as almost no people trained 150+ with no type of 2x or 4x.

Didn't notice that the question in the poll is different than the thread title... If the question is whether post BB training is more difficult then my answer would be no. To get good enough exp post BB you can just solo your way from 1-200 without funds. To get good exp pre BB, you need NX, rep, a bishop/am partner + hs mule. So it's far easier to level post BB. If you have funds (post BB), you will level faster, but the difference is small. If you have funds (pre BB), the difference when training is BIG; you can level 8x faster than someone unfunded. Job also mattered more pre BB: whether you had an ultimate or not, whether you needed to hp wash to solo Royal Guard or not. The difference between a mech and a warrior post BB... I believe a good mech levels 1.4x faster at 4th job. The difference between a job that can easyly solo Royal guard S, warriors and bowmans with puppet or DBs with that image thingy right? Vs everything else is way bigger. Same thing for a job that has an ultimate vs a job that doesn't. Post BB training is way more balanced.
For the question in the poll, I think I enjoyed training pre BB more than post BB mostly because if I wanted to get good exp, I HAD to train with someone else, which means I was never alone by myself. Tbh, it's hard for me to train alone. 2x cards were also a good motivation; if you bought a 30 days 2x card, you had to train 4 hours or you wasted money. This will change when we get LHC though. We can train with people again there and get better exp than soloing.

Well, I think training post-BB is really just the same as before BB. For sure, the lower levels are much faster, no doubt there. Just that I think it is debatable for higher level ranges if it is harder, because I find that comparing my %/hour gain to my buddies around the same level before BB (1x for both cases), there is really not that much difference.
The reason I say it is debatable on why it is harder is because now at the higher levels, there is no longer the option of going 2x/4x. That's simply the reason, because otherwise characters have skills that do more damage, but monster's (m)def is take into consideration and their HP about 3x as much really just does not change anything in regards to how fast one may level.
So really, depending on how you view all this, BB can simply just be another patch that favours people below level 150- and a screws it all for people 150+, but that's only for the 2x users anyway. Well, not to mention that oMS did get the EXPlosion exp curve removed, so that's possibly another reason why 150+ after BB may feel harder.
Still, besides the 1-100 or so levels being easier, I like pre-BB training better. Why? Because I find that with that notorious accuracy system (that I absolutely despise!), people pretty much have to be around the same level to train. Just one level off and 5% miss rate could just ruin training, and due to that it almost seems like people will never really make friends with people higher or lower levelled since the accuracy system ruins everything. I remember being much lower levelled than a buddy, but we trained at Skeles anyway because it was beneficial to both of us and we got to know each other as we trained. That would be impossible today unless the somebody higher levelled would purposely train slower just to make a friend (in which case, it might be boring to them).
And really, since the accuracy system is so infamous for screwing up all training, I lost all of my training buddies since BB as they cannot hit the monsters we used to train at. I find the friend-factor in training completely destroyed by this notorious accuracy system, and in a sense, makes training harder.

how the pineapple can you enjoy grinding
The addictiveness of the steady push-button-get-reward system doesn't have to be about running the same circle around one map 50,000 times. Levelling times in MS are still ridiculous. There just isn't enough content to justify making them faster.

No. For your average joe who couldn't fulfil the specific party requirements to achieve optimal EXP pre-BB and didn't use 2x EXP cards/family buffs, it's a hell of a lot faster. 3-4 hours a level soloing at 14x is something my Shadower could only ever dream of. The way boss EXP scales now post-BB (in gMS at least) also makes doing a couple of bosses a day and nothing else an actual viable method of training and not a complete waste of time EXP-wise. As far as I'm concerned they made Maple more playable for the casual player.
Ultimates were so so boring and broken. Actually glad my AMs EXP intake has been effectively halved.
Accuracy system sucks a fair amount, but since I solo alot and have been too mesmerised by how easy it is to level, it hasn't affected me much.
10x-11x being "slow" is an illusion created by the ridiculous EXP rates of levels 1-100. You can still level in under 2 hours all the way to level 120, but you're too used to the 40 minutes to an hour rates of the previous levels.

If it weren't for the BB exp / game mechanic revamp, my CK would still be lvl 56, not 120, and I'd have a lvl 3x or 4x Mech, not 78. I'll gladly take BB over pre-BB as it's actually opened up a lot more options for my Pally instead of me being limited to a couple things to well over the half dozen choices I have now.

What's said about 1-120 has already been said well multiple times throughout this thread so I don't feel the need to mention my thoughts about that.
New EXP rates for 140+ are easier by far. However, people who have been spoiled by 4x and 2x buffs and cards won't be able to survive past 140+. Getting 10% an hour is average. That's the way it was pre-BigBang without all that 2x/4x mumbo jumbo. As I've never used those buffs with the exception of once just to see what it's like, I still manage and maintain 10%+ an hour during my 16x training at Temple of Time. Although I definitely see training speed slowing down, it's moreso due to the lack of end game content than the difficult of leveling. This has always been the issue ever since Maple Story was young. It was difficult to level past 7x at Zombies because there was nothing else. And then Ludi and Aqua were released. It was difficult to level past 12x because there was nothing else. The pattern continues with ever so increasing end game content. However, in each of these patterns, the game wasn't designed to go past that point at the typical 10% an hour speed. There should be no way a 18x should be getting 10% an hour on 16x monsters at ToT. LHC is supposed to bring about the end to this stagnation, but from various sources, I've heard it was only a bit slight better than ToT and only due to party exp bonuses.

Least Nexon could do would be fix for mansion mobs, Thats rigged exp atm. I dont know why they didnt fix it with malaysia/singa mobs.

All Big Bang has done for me if get rid of the feeling that I need a x2 card to train. Even at that, it still feels slow. I think it's kind of lame that it took 2 hours on x2 today to get 80% @ 144 (Two paps and training on the level 144 monks). I personally think x2 card should be opened up for people past a certain level. Who knows, maybe my opinion will change with LHC. Actually, it probably will.

It was not really bothering me up until recently, it is a little more difficult. It started getting a little more painful at 16X. Just going to tough it out until LHC is out, and hope it's as good as everyone says.

I get the feeling that to get decent exp at LHC you're going to have to spend way more NX than training on 2x/4x ever cost. Namely, cube your gear so you can do at least 30m DPM, or gtfo.
It's true to a lesser degree everywhere. People with lots of NX train faster, and boss way faster, than people without. Pre-BB, at least when you bought a 2x card, single-use or monthly, you got your money's worth. You could MTS or do offers or mow the neighbor's lawn for $2 - and get 4 hours of 2x (barring unexpected mishaps). Post potential and BB, I've had bad luck days / items, where I used 30 or 40 cubes at a time without increasing my damage range (and therefore, training speed) one tiny bit. I absolutely hate gambling. I really wish potential items could be MTS'ed, then at least I'd have the option of spending my NX knowing exactly what I get in return. (The selection in Kradia FM is ... not very big)
And don't get me started on family rep 2x.
