Interview with "Most Hated" MapleStory GM

1. What have you done to receive the bane of the MapleStory community?

Let me see, I guess doing my job. I not only ban players I catch cheating but I'm also the one who can choose to unban, which rarely happens. Ha. I have to do what's right in MapleStory. I must be doing something right to have all the hackers hate me.

There's a lot of great players in MapleStory and I enjoy helping those players most. They get excited when a GM talks to them. Just a simple "Hello" can make them go crazy. It feels good to help someone with an issue or a problem. That's what I enjoy most about being a GM.

3. Who makes your job the most challenging?

The cheaters, the hackers can make it tough. We do our best to stop them when they are up to no good. I can't tell you how many times I've banned someone and they'll claim it wasn't them, that they were on vacation when it happened. But we know it's them. Trust me. We know.

4. Where do you fit in with the ban-appealing process and how does this affect your status?

Well. I am the judge, jury and executioner. I get to read the players' request for removing a ban. We look at the evidence we've collected against a player and then we start the appeal process. The process can affect me a little bit. Come on, no one grows up wanting to be the most-hated GM. But then I realize I'm just doing my job and I'm happy to do it.

5. How do you respond to rumors you're a BOT?

Beep beep boop beep does not compute. Oil is my blood. Ha. For the record, I am not a bot. I am a human being with a sense of humor - a good one at that! I'm a normal person. I put on my transistors one at a time. I mean I put on my pants one leg at a time...

6. Do you play the game at all on your free time?

I play MapleStory several days out of the week. It's a lot of fun. I also like playing our other games, especially our new game Combat Arms. No that's not a shameless plug, I really do like it, especially when I can take out my aggression after receiving so much hate in MapleStory.

7. How has your experience as a GM made you view things on the players' side differently (if at all)"

It's really made me appreciate the world we've created at Nexon with MapleStory. You can really see the players enjoying themselves and putting in a lot of effort to level up and gain fame. I've really got a lot of respect for all the Maplers - and that respect is why I work hard to keep MapleStory safe from hackers.

8. What are some of the factors that you think led to your earning this title of 'most hated GM'?
Again, I believe it really comes down to me just doing my job. If you cheat and we catch you, you have to go through me to get your account appealed. Go ahead, beg and plead all you want but if you don't want the time, don't do the crime. Cheesy? Yes, but also true.

After checking Rankings, "bargheist isn't on them, but "vinccenzo" is and he looks the same as he does there. I doubt this is a P.Server I've seen Vector In-Game before.

It is not. If you see the first screenshot it has the blue text that says with CAPITAL words the nicknames of who's in your map (I think).

That's a GMS-only GM feature. Well, it's easy to make it in a PServer, but I REALLY doubt it's fake. I saw Vector in Bera and it's the same as the one in the screenshots.

You can EASILY! get the same outfit, level, etc. as someone from GMS to a Pserver.

I never remember GM's taking screenshots of them stalking players like it's a game show lol.

Maybe fewer people would hate Vector if he would look into ban system glitches earlier... After the first or second report, not the 9874th.

Compare that with this (posting the SW ID as I cant find the SP version of it).

It might be due to who's doing the interview, but in my opinion, the SEA GMs did a MUCH better job in their interview that Vector did with his.

What I find appalling (and scary) is this: A LOT of us know that some of those banned for Bigfoot glitching were innocent, yet in this interview, he clearly insists that "you only get banned for cheating. Dont want to get banned? Dont cheat", which isnt the case.

Additionally, dont throw the "Im hated cause I do my job properly" pomegranate at us because that's not true. If "making it look like I dont care when responding to tickets" is your job, then you're doing a good job of it. You dont do your job properly and make most replies seem automated (if they arent in fact actually automated) and that's why you're "hated", not because they got caught cheating.

I dont cheat in the game yet I still dislike (hate is a big word) your actions. Why? Cause it really seems you dont care.

Before this, I'd give all GMs and others in authority with nexon the benefit of the doubt. After reading this, "GMVector" has lost that benefit of the doubt. Hopefully the other GMs dont do "interviews" like this that make them look... less than optimal.

The few huge outbreaks of hacking have already had permanent, negative effects on our server. GMs haven't done anything and can't do anything. They don't care. I've always played this game legit and as completely honest as I can. I hate GMs because they are worthless.

I just find it a bit sad that the only times people really get to see GMs is if they are hosting some event. In that case, there are thousands and thousands of people gathered around the GM and it's almost impossible to deal with the lag. I know that GMs are probably using the 'Hide' skill, but I still wish they'd pop out everyone once in a while.

Nah, actually the anti-hacking systems work well enough to keep the "simplest noobs" out. A year ago, all you had to do was download some stuff and click a few buttons to start botting your way to fame and fortune. Now you have to have a few brain cells to do it, which has eliminated 90% of the cheaters. Every now and then, there is a huge and highly visible problem that comes up, like the PG thing and the guild hack. Smarter people can still cheat, but the really smart ones stay hidden, only doing public actions on accounts they don't care about losing.

Also, nobody has to make up things to make Nexon look incompetent. For Exhibit "A," I'll give you Bigfoot. First, they released a monster that was broken because they didn't test it thoroughly. Next, instead of stopping it from spawning the moment that massive problem was discovered, they left it alone long enough for the ranks in Yellonde to become forever ruined by Hermits and F/Ps camping Bigfoot on 4x to 8x experience. To compensate for that, they used a lazy method and banned hundreds of people who had leveled quickly through legitimate methods.

For Exhibits B through Omega, we have archers getting disconnected for doing too much damage, people getting banned disconnected for attacking while swimming, people getting banned for patching using Nexon's own manual patcher, etc.

We could never make that stuff up. Nexon's doing a fine job of making themselves look like idiots.

(Edit: Oh, and before you tell me GTPO, I like this game. I just think Nexon's report card is full of "Needs Improvement" marks.)

You go for most recent, I go for longest-lasting with an extra penalty for looking into it and failing to see it.

I never really saw the problem with that anyway. All the monsters there are too weak to kill anyone who isn't over level 30 or so and if they died there the exp loss wouldn't make that big a difference anyway. Not to mention that aside from the crystal boars and indigo eyes, you respawn on the snails level. O_o
