I guess that's a good way to put it. I'm still looking forward to the album, but I wish she didn't hype the single as much as she did because that only lead to disappointment. Speaking of Firework, that's another reason I'm not really liking Born This Way. There have been so many "love yourself" songs lately: We R Who We R, Just the Way You Are, Firework, Raise Your Glass, F**kin Perfect etc. It's such a played-out theme.

I mean, technically Xtina did it first with "Beautiful." Honestly, I don't think it's a played out theme at all. You know what I think is? Watching big-assed black girls drop to the flo in the club while the DJ spins that pomegranate. Any combination of words in the previous sentence. Not only do tracks like those outnumber "love yourself" tracks 100:1, but they have so much less meaning for people that they're boring.

And just to argue the point further, I'll reiterate what my creative writing professor told us on the first day of class: "There are a select few topics that are written about extensively throughout history, and it's not the topics themselves that make a story/poem boring, but how the author/poet chooses to convey them." A perfect example of this would be love, in general. How many books/poems/movies/songs/works of art in general out there deal with the subject of love in any of its many forms? Too many to count. Yet people keep making them, and people keep loving them. It's all about how the artist chooses to approach a subject, and is why I like a lot of the songs you listed above.

For example, I love how in Raise Your Glass P!nk creates the oh-so-common embarrassing moment for many of us when we start singing a song lyric we don't know 100%, and we sing it to early, and awkwardly stop right away. In Born This Way, Gaga explicitly calls out to the LGBT and multiracial communities. And all of the other songs describe self-empowerment through different angles: Firework uses, obviously, a firework metaphor for your inner passion to stand up for yourself, Just The Way You Are and F**kin Perfect use words of affirmation from a loved one, and We R Who We R refers to everyone as young superstars that should just party and have fun together running a town just like a club...okay, Ke$ha's not exactly the most profound with her lyrics, but (and this is in defense of a lot of the shallow party tracks I made fun of earlier) every now and then a song that revolves around simply celebrating yourself by partying isn't a bad thing.

And @ "Subway kid": I'm thinking she's just referring to people who hide their true selves ("bury their true selves underground like subways"). Original title if that's the case.

This. I honestly don't think anyone should have something labeled as "album of the decade." Just label it as Gaga's best album, don't unfairly say it is greater than anyone else's music.

I'm pretty sure its the people in new york who hang out in the subway underground, or something. I remember her mentioning subway kid before in an interview I could be wrong though D:.

Ok so I felt Born This Way was mediocre earlier, but now I cannot stop listening to it. Its definitely grown on me. 150 plays on iTunes so far.

IMO the production on Hold It Against Me is a lot better than Born This Way. The dubstep part is really only in the bridge but otherwise the beat doesn't overpower her vocals. Born This Way's production is slightly overbearing in certain parts of the song. I expected better from Fernando Garibay, since he produced Dance in the Dark.

It's worse than modern pop songs. One comparison that I love to make is Gaga x Katy Perry. Both of these artists have very little talent and their success is dependent on how catchy their songs are. Guess who makes catchier songs?

lolwut How can you say she has no talent? I can't speak for Katy Perry but GaGa definitely has talent... you can't deny that.

Shes a performer, an entertainer; what's wrong with her entertaining her fans? I don't get why some people just blatantly dismiss her talent. and OF COURSE she isn't unique, she's just different from the rest of the pop stars. There isn't anything gaga has done that was revolutionary or unique, because let's face it, EVERYones done EVERYthing.

For those of you who think her vocals in the track are underwhelming, I hope you saw her performance of the song a little less than an hour ago on the Grammys. Her theatrics were at a relative minimum, with the focus all on vocals + dance routines.

in my opinion, i didn't enjoy it.

She came out of an egg. And she actually danced and sang beautifully the entire time. Funny thing is my parents both think it's just a rip-off of "Express Yourself" so they like it, kinda. Gaga is amazing just for the fact her voice is stunning live and in studio.

K, it was goodish vocals goodish dance but I felt there could have been more.

She's on the right track...to a massive debut.

Poor Britney, GaGa just shattered the records that Hold It Against Me broke, and in only 3 days too.

I really enjoyed her grammy performances. She didn't let the theatrics overshadow her talent. Her dancing has improved tremendously too.
