Starcraft 2
#1
I'd like to start by saying that I'm not fond of RTS games. Starcraft/Starcraft 2/Warcraft and the like.

I find the games take too long to "set up", and even then it's simply a war of attrition every time.

A few weeks ago my friend, Andrew, came over and asked if he could install/play SC2, working a 3-11 (local time) shift, I had no problem with that, since one roommate is always home, he only lives 2 buildings down the street, and his computer isnt worth the metal it's made of. I was in the midst of starting an FFXIII file anyway, so I wasn't on my computer when I was home, to begin with.

My roommate's other friend, Brandyn, came over and installed a special map addon thing, that added another type of game to the equation, Line Wars Tower Defence. I saw my roommate, Emerson, playing it, and wondered why it wasn't the typical Starcraft match. There were mazes of units, and waves coming at them. He was sending waves of monsters to the person to his direct right, as everyone else did, and each monster sent brought up his income (always in 30s intervals). The monsters sent at him, when killed, from the player to his left, also increased his current crystal stock (money hoard).

He explained the rules to me, and let me sit down for a try at it.

Having come in 4th on my first attempt (each match has 8 people), I decided to try another one. Came in 5th, wasn't good enough. Tried a 3rd match, came in 4th again. I wanted to push for a first place slot, and after my 4th match, I placed 2nd.

I then realized 4 hours went by, and I loved every second of it! I'm not sure of the exact map name, but I do know that it was fun as hell!

New addiction away!

Yeah, all the Starcraft "Use Map Setting" games are awesome (basically all the games that are user-created).

This game sounds a bit like League of Legends, actually.

Is what I was playing what DotA is? I've never been in the RTS scene, as I've previously mentioned, but that tower defence game is AWESOME! I'll link it when I'm home from work.

DoTA is not a tower defence game. It's a hero based Player vs Player kind of game like League of Legends.

Tower Defense is a very typical type of game. It has been featured in numerous RTS games (Age of Empires 2 and Warcraft 3 that I know of) and also has many variants in Flash version (though the multiplayer ones are generally more fun).

You can find numerous different TD games on each RTS (there is, I imagine, more than 1 TD for SC2).

When I played the original Starcraft a long time ago, all i played were used map settings games. I liked the army battling base defense ones, but my favorite type was probably the one where you're given a unit to control. Then you and your team have to make it through a course without touching any enemies, which are scattered across the map. Then, when I got Starcraft 2 almost all the games i played were ranked matches for some reason.

Yea, I'm familiar in the Tower Defence games, I personally love the bloons version. I also have it on my iPhone, along with the Square Enix TD game.

TD is fun if you get into it, but it seems to take forever to get to the "fun" part. Usually the first 20-30 waves suck...

Yeah. Except they disguised its true nature by naming it Observer Madness or something like that.

Wow, maybe I should play this game for myself. My brother got it for Christmas and ever since he's been playing it a lot. Would be fun too since then we could play together.

Hmm..

Try Aiur Chef and Starjeweled. Those are better multiplayer games though.

Oh god Starjeweled. I started playing the other day and the next thing I know it's past midnight and I haven't walked the dog yet.
