Other games that have implemented authenticators do NOT require you to have them in order to play. It is simply a luxury of having more security. Those who are willing and able to pay will do it. Those who can't pay or refuse to will not. Seeing as they have already developed an iPhone app already, I wouldn't think they are too far off from being capable of doing this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't some other versions of MS have this already? I swear I heard somewhere that MSEA or MSTaiwan had something like this.

So if they develop an iPhone app, should we also get Android, BlackBerry, etc. apps too?

Why so negative? any more account security is good.
it's a choice to use them or not, I sure as hell would.
and the application for other mobile OS's would depend on how man people use them and how much Nexon really cares about their customer security.

Dunno, register for the cost estimator and find out - https://www.rsa.com/go/authtree/auth-index.htm
Best estimate I've seen is 15$ a year which can be passed to the end user, plus whatever the licensing cost is.
WOW manages their authenticators for $6.50 on a volume license so Nexon could probably manage a competitively similar price with their alleged userbase.

That is entirely up to Nexon. There is no way they are going to be able to cover all phones and services, and they most certainly won't please everyone. I'm sure if Nexon would be able to come up with some sort of alternative, maybe a physical authenticator, but that depends on how much Nexon would be willing to invest into a project like this.

I'm not trying to be negative. I'm just saying for a Free to Play game (as opposed to Pay to Play like Warcraft), how much is it going to cost us as well as Nexon to get this implemented and will it be maintained properly to ensure it does work? If Warcraft's are $6.50 and you pay about $12.99 per month for a 6 month access term, you know it's going to be at LEAST more than $10 a month for this service from Nexon...

Although it is free to play, that hasn't stopped people from buying loads and loads of NX and sure as hell won't stop them from buying authenticators.

They're free on phones. You only need to pay for the keychain if you don't have a device that can receive the code (which is unlikely in this day and age).
Given the fact that other companies are starting to implement these, I don't think it's as expensive to implement as you make it seem. The fact that MSEA has them is enough proof that Nexon could add these to GMS if they wanted without a cost large enough to warrant charging their customers for it to make up for the cost of implementing it.
By the way, knowing Nexon they'll do something like let you bypass the number if you click "I lost my device" and will only ask for your birthday or something as verification. It'd still help though, and I see no reason to not want this. Even if it has a chance of being compromised, so does everything else currently implemented, so what difference does it make? It's an added security layer.

I'de buy it as a key chain So how exactly does this thing work? Would you still enter your PW and PIC like always then have something pop up asking for your authenticator number?
Also:Just tweeted them about adding this. More security is better security IDC if they say I have to walk a mile with a pedometer on me before I play. If it AMAZINGLY reduces my chances of getting hacked I'm game.

I use an authenticator for my Paypal account. The way it works there is you enter your password and username, and then after that you enter the authenticator code. In my case, I get a text sent directly to my cellphone, which is entirely free.
I would imagine that in Maple it would be entering your username and password, and then in place of your PIC you'd need the authenticator code. Maybe the PIC in conjunction with some kind of security question could be used if you put that you lost your authenticator.

Why GREY? Seriously. Can't they come in a sleek black or something? They look like something from the 80s. Also I would pay a ton for an authenticator. Can't put a price on safety.

Pretty much how it works is you enter your username + password, and then it'll ask for your authentication number afterward. Failure to input the correct code within the 30-60sec time frame denies the account from logging in, until said code is entered correctly. Of course the code changes when the timer expires and it gives you a new digit code to enter in its place with the previous code becoming invalid and the server denying it.

Interesting. Now if they could dumb it down and find a way to implement it via SMS i'd take interest.

That's just the samples. They can be ordered branded to look like anything. MapleStory mushrooms for example
Google search WOW's for the colorful ones.

They come with different designs. The WoW one is black with a WoW sticker.

Just wanted to say thanks to those who are actually helping out by tweeting Nexon and posting on their facebook profile, I appreciate it and I'm sure others who want this do as well.
