Class of 2011 College Acceptances Thread

First of all...let me establish this: this is not a pure bragging thread.

Many seniors will be celebrating (or crying their hearts out) next month when most admissions decisions come out. Some seniors have received their notifications early (depending on what option they chose when they applied).

With that said, this thread is meant for seniors currently applying for college to share their admissions results with others. Feel free to post any acceptance results here! And of course, if you do not want to, you can keep the Rejected decisions to yourselves. I understand the crushing pain from rejections, especially if its coming from the dream college that you dreamed of attending since you were four years old.

College Application options acronyms that may be used:

* = these are the application options only available for certain colleges/universities.

Beyond that, best of luck, obviously, to everyone else and everywhere else they applied. To expand upon what Will said in his first post, it was my dream to go to the Ivy League for ~5 years or so before my Senior year, and not only was I rejected from the three schools within it that I applied to (Cornell ED, Columbia, Princeton), but I was also rejected across the board elsewhere (George Washington University in D.C., Emory in Atlanta, and waitlisted at Northwestern). Then UW-Madison came rolling around, and fast forward 1.5 years to today, and I couldn't have been happier. Like one of my favorite high school teachers always told me when I cried about a rejection, "The college that accepts you and that you ultimately end up deciding to attend will be the one you were meant to go to."

And hey, even if that's not true in some cases, at least you can transfer right away. College is a lot more fluid than most high school students make it out to be.

Keep every option open. Don't lose hope.

I'm expecting Princeton from you... lol

I'm going back to UNBSJ in Sept 2012 to start my second year of my BSC. My GPA is somewhere around a 3.0 so I'm gunna have to bust my ass to get it up or around a 4.0-4.3 (we use a 4.3 scale in Canada, interestingly enough, Carleton uses a 12pt scale). My smalltown city has one of the top sciences schools in Canada, and one of the few nuclear medicine programs in the country, it's great!

I don't have scolarships unfortunately, so I'm paying out of pocket.

I should have been 4th year by then, but whatever... My mother capped out my line of credit last year, so I'm stuck paying that off and then saving to pay cash... Can't apply for student loans as an independent student until I'm 21, so having been born in October, I miss the application cutoff deadline by like 8 weeks.

Northeastern University - accepted into honors program with scholarship
WPI- accepted with scholarship
UMass Amherst- accepted into honors program with a small scholarship
MIT- deferred, no big surprise

All of these were early action, still waiting on a few more schools.

Hillsdale College(Early Action)-Status unknown, applied the first week of November, expected class of 300 students. Expecting scholarships and admission.
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor(Early Action)-First choice, Accepted into the College of Language, Science, and the Arts. Scholarships decided after submitting FAFSA. Expecting nothing.
Central Michigan University-Mediocre education, back-up college. Accepted with $9,000 of the $12,000 per year funded through the school. Both my brothers attended and will only attend if money is the limiting factor between Hillsdale or UofM.

I only applied to three because I knew which schools I wanted to go to. I figured if I applied EA and didn't get into these then I would proceed to search for other opportunites. I am more than excited upon my UofM admittance and being a Wolverine would be fantastic as it is one of the Top 20 schools to prepare me for the medical field. I just need to submit my FAFSA and other government scholarship requirements in order to figure how I can fund my education.

Any news on the ROTC, Will?

Also, what AP tests are you other seniors taking this year? My school is offering our first APs ever in Literature, Language, Government, and Microeconomics. I'm planning on taking Calc AB, Lit, and Spanish Language. I've never taken an AP and I'm wondering if it is worth my money to take them?

@Corn, submitting the applications is probably the worst feeling ever. You can't change it and you realize that you've sent all hopes of your life continuing to another school. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST DAY TO SUBMIT. My biggest mistake was waiting until two days before to start my essays, I was positive I would not get in because they were so bad. Get your applications done as early as possible and revise as much as possible.

If you do choose to go to Univ. of Michigan-Ann Arbor and do well there, it will be a big boost for you later on. Univ. of Michigan-Ann Arbor is one of the top-tier universities in the United States, as you probably know.

A month ago, I sent in my AFROTC paper application ("Part II"). Recently, I found out I'm eligible for an interview, so I'm waiting for the local Air Force ROTC detachment officer (either from UCLA or USC) to contact me to schedule an interview. Hopefully it all goes well.

Kurtle, do take the AP exams; its well worth your money, and it will enhance your knowledge. And by taking those AP tests - and getting 4s and 5s on them - will save you a LOT of tuition $ once you hit college. Not to mention, you get a head start on college coursework, and get a feel of the academic rigorousness of college.

I don't know if AP differs from IB, but when I took IB you had to get a 5-7 to get a university credit.

I'm aware of IB exams (my school offers the IB Program). They are somewhat different in terms of material taught and the approaches to it, but both of those exams are college-level material either way.

I'm pretty worried about my applications. I did not get to finish any until the last day they were due (you really should start early, maybe summer, for those of you out there). I applied to U of Rochester, Ohio State U, and U of Wisconsin-Madison, SUNY Binghamton and Oswego for regular decision. I favor OSU or Wisconsin but it all comes down to which accepts me and which I can afford. I really hope the financial aid packages will be good, but these are big state schools so I'm a bit doubtful. Also, the application status page isn't showing that they have received my fee waiver and my transcript, even though both were mailed awhile ago. I'm hoping it's only because I submitted the application over the weekend and not a problem of actually receiving them.

I also applied ED to Cornell ALS, but that was a bit too optimistic of me (rejected).

I've only applied SCEA to the University of Calgary. Already accepted with an offer into Engineering (tough!) and yeah. Eligible for a $1.2k scholarship, which is amazing.

I also already have $1,500 secured in scholarship money, and I'm looking for more right now because engineering is frelcking expensive.

I got into BA Honours Economics at Wilfrid Laurier, Business Management at Ryerson, and Accounting at Ottawa. Laurier was my first choice, but I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to pay for it...

Its about time that your parents and you have a talk about their finances. You're an adult, and discussing how their finances will impact your chances at getting financial aid is pretty important towards your post-secondary education.

I had to sift through my parents finances while I was doing my FAFSA and CSS Profiles (in order to qualify for financial aid for schools in the United States), and of course, I found some things in their financial statements that they did not reveal to me previously, for very good reasons. But the good side to this is that it gave me an idea of the possibility of getting financial aid from the schools I'm applying to atm.

To Kurtle: I just got my AFROTC appointment letter from the local detachment officer (from USC). The cruel thing is that its scheduled on Valentine's Day. Obviously, I have to be at school during that day and have to change my appointment as a result, but still....the date of the interview is just cruel irony at its best. FML

All options are open right now. But given the best possible situation, I do want to stay in California.
