Nexon 4th quarter revenue boost
#1
I was looking up a WoW article and found this. Thought it might be pretty interesting for you guys

http://www.examiner.com/mmorpg-in-nation...enue-boost

according to that, Nexon's sales skyrocketed after big bang came out and they also set a new record for their total amount of players

It's not a surprize. I think we all expected this.

Well I'm surprised since it was released at the same time as Cataclysm. I know Blizzard said that they also set a few records of their own.

DC Universe just came out 2 weeks ago I believe which is surprising to me that they wouldn't release before christmas like Big Bang and Cata. I'm so so tempted to buy DCUO but iono if I want to spend any time on a new MMO. Plus I'm thinking of making a maple character to play with mechanics when I get bored.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that after last year's poor revenue numbers for NX-AM that everything they brought out in 2010 release schedule was to attempt to bring the numbers up.

IIRC NX-AM was the worst? or close to it revenue earner out of all the branches.

Mm it sounds like you think they stole other players from different games. I think it's because cubes came out is all.

Well of course they did. You can't break records without taking players from other games.

You can also bring back old players or take even more money from your current player base (cubes).

"Nexon has perfected a formula for gameplay with a business model that attracts players and keeps them loyal." Rolleyes

I think half that revenue came from Black friday/Cubes. Everything else usually has a 3 month expiration date. Yes more players came back but NX cash is heavily used on Cubes.

Nexon is the first company I've seen, with playerbase that hates the company, but still buys nx.

Random note: Reporter looks just what I would imagine first for "MMORPG Examiner".

I was reminded of Nexon when reading articles about the flight industry. I know it's not a direct comparison but just an interesting thought about hating a company (or group of compaines) yet still forking it over on a regular basis.

Not surprised that the cash came flowing in, lots of old players coming back to find cubes being a huge nx sink.

I can bet you an overwhelming majority of that extra revenue came from cubes. Returning/new players are playing due to the new EXP curve, which is very lovely. The latter doesn't necessarily mean Nexon revenue went up.

I'd also declare DFO playing a part in the revenue increase, but sadly it's quite possible to go through a long stretch of the game on only ~$10 every couple months or none at all. There ARE however always the people hungry for Rare avatars so they'd throw Nexon $25 every couple weeks or so, so there's always a steady revenue from that.

Could someone explain to me what cubes are?

3D shapes with 6 sides.

But in all seriousness, they mean Miracle Cubes which are used to reset the potential of an equip.

Their revenue increase was to be expected due to the release of games such as Vindictus.

Their profits however have probably remained about the same due to the extra spending in preparation for the leaps they have made.

Okay, imagine Reforging from WoW, except it costs real money, and the reforged stats are random. BUT, do it enough times and you'll have a powerful piece of equipment that blows all clean epics away. Basically if the cubing (Reforging) is done enough times, the item level power can jump up enough to be worth half a dozen epics on one slot alone. Hope that helps. Chin

Everytime I read one of those articles I wonder what game they're talking about...big bang had nothing to do with nx sales (well unless people re-did their ap builds but thats different)....and their business model seems to be lack of customer and ingame support followed by over priced items in the cash shop.

I love how they're boasting about their number of players. I have four accounts. Each of those accounts has six characters. That's 24 characters, 18 of which are just mules that I use to bug people.

I count as 24 people.
