ZOMFG!!! NEW SONY GAMING PORTABLE DEVICE!!!

Sony's Tokyo Conference is currently in progress.
There has been mentioned a new portable device: Next Generation Portable (NGP) for now.

Features shown by now:
- 5 inch OLED touch screen.
- Touch panel in the rear.
- 3G plus WiFi.
- GPS.
- Sixasis motion sensing abilities.
- Front and rear camara with microphones.
- 4x the resolution of the PSP.
- It will accept a new game medium, flash based.
- Release due to holidays in Japan.
- Graphics that rival PS3.
- Black, white, and silver colors.
- Micro analog-stick.
- Gyro-sensor.
- "Live Area", new service. It's like the hub page for a game where users can get information on different games and jump right into the PlayStation Store and other parts of the PS space.
- Trophy support.
- Built-in message boards.
- Location-based services. This gives users the ability to see where their friends are, and what they're playing. All live.
- The Near app records the footprints of your travel, and tracks it. The app shows the path of the user in a friendly, stylish inferface. People around you that are gaming are displayed as avatars. So you can actually see where people were. Tapping on the avatar shows the games that user was playing recently. This is like a Google Map for gamers, showing when, where, and what people are playing. You can drill down even deeper to see how many people are playing Hot Shots in your area, for example. If you see someone playing a game, you can touch it and buy it instantly on the PS Store to start playing for yourself.
- Dual analog-sticks.

Games shown by now:
- Hot Shots.
- Killzone.
- Reality Fighters.
- Broken.
- Various augmented reality games.
- Gravity.
- Daze.
- Little Big Planet.
- WipeOut.
- Resistance.
- Uncharted.
- Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
- Lost Planet 2
- Yakuza (maybe?)
- Dynasty Warriors
- Metal Gear Solid 4 (Opening scene)
- Dungeon Defenders
- Call of Duty

Events:

Capcom, SEGA, Tecmo Koei, Konami, Epic, and Activision were invited onto the stage.

Hideo Kojima wants to create an experience where you can play something on the PS3, then put it on the NGP and take it with you and resume your experience. Kojima notes that he will reveal the company's plans at E3 this year.

Epic shows a trailer of the Unreal Engine 3 running on the device.

Dungeon Defenders was meant for the PS3 but was moved over to the portable. And nothing was reduced in the process. The team could make the move over in just one week of development time.

A list of devs is shown, including Grassopper, IREM, Level 5, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, Ubisoft, 2k Games, and Rockstar. These are all devs that have pledged to support the device.

-The conference ended-

Playstation North America just updated the blog with info on the NGP!! Read it here.

Killzone, (possibly) Metal Gear Solid, LITTLE BIG PLANET and UNCHARTED say hello.

Unless you mean new IP.

All of those are ports of console games and Killzone is terrible. Even then, none of those are interesting enough to sell the system. I also don't understand why Sony is interested in creating a portable PS3 when the PS3 is not doing so well. If this fails then they're screwed. If it's successful then the PS3 might as well just be a paperweight.

Any guesses?

Probably around the same as the PSP (6 - 8 hours) and I would hope the price doesn't exceed $200 but who knows. Complaining about either of those not being announced would be pretty ridiculous since Nintendo didn't announce the 3DS price and battery life until this month when the system was first announced back in March of 2010.

My guess, is price will be around 250~300. Seeing as the 3DS is sitting at 250, Sony cant go much higher than that, or they wont sell any/much of them.

Also, reaction to hearing the news of this;

Sorry Sony, the 3DS already kicked your corpse a while ago.

Let's see how fast this goes to the garbage.

It's probably going to lack the same thing the psp did, a nice amount of good games.

And they said the 3DS @ $250 is too much Tongue

I'm really liking it. Hopefully it'll be around 3DS price.

I'm kind of torn between the 3DS and this thing. This looks cool as hell and probably will have much more hackability, but the 3DS has 3D...and awesome games...and is probably cheaper...

Now port over a couple Tales games, make yet another Persona game (but for the PSP2), and I'm set.
