Error code 40, Installation failed. (11315,-105)

Alright, I've tried pretty much everything under the sun with this, and I'm getting ****ed off now.

Maple was fine until a few days ago, Tuesday I think. Played around for a while, closed game and had a windows pop-up saying that a file was corrupted, something about "1%" and that I should try a chkdsk to fix it. After that, when trying to start the game I'd get to the channel selection screen, choose a channel, and the game would close. After a few tries of this, the game would go to a black screen after starting the game from the website, then return straight back to the desktop and refuse to run.

That was the easy part.

Since then I've tried to reinstall the game with the v93.exe, to have it either fail or work properly. Then onto patching, where somewhere along patching the files it would encounter an error and tell me to redownload. Most of these times the error was to do with Map.wz. I tried a manual patch, same results. I then downloaded the v94.exe, attempted to install, I'd always get an error during the installation (again, most of the time with Map.wz or just after starting). I uninstalled everything and deleted files from App Data, Temp folder and even cleared my browser cache, and still the same. I got frustrated and tried a system restore, which not only made me lose the v94.exe but landed me back in the same spot. Even with what should have been a working MS folder (I restored back to the 24th), it didn't work, and wouldn't patch.

Since then I've redownloaded the v94.exe AGAIN, deleted all files, cleared temp settings, performed chkdsk at startup several times, and nothing is working. The v94.exe simply refuses to install properly. And yes, I've tried running it as an adminstrator. I don't understand how it can encounter an error during install even after removing all traces of the game and then using a freshly downloaded client installer, only for it to error on Map.wz again. It makes no sense.

I've even tried changing the file path destination, ran the v94.exe from an external HD and tried to run the installer from another HD to install it on another HD and I still get the same results.

Now the part that is interesting. I downloaded a fresh install on my desktop and tried to install on there... it still failed. I think the v94 setup file nexon has provided is corrupt.

Any thoughts?

I usually have a problem patching on my labtop too. What I did was:

1. I created a new user account on the labtop, with nothing on it, I didn't even use the internet on it or anything.
2. I opened MS folder -> Hackshield folder
3. "Update" selection
4. "Autoupdate" selection
5. I let it autoupdate then patch from that same user account on labtop, and it works. If I try this on my usual user it fails. And I have to do this every patch.

You try it and hopefully it will work for you.

I can no longer attempt to patch since I am now unable to install the game itself.

Check and make sure your anti-virus isn't in conflict with the MapleStory installer. You probably need to run a de-fragmentation tool as well.

What anti-virus are you running?

I would try an even earlier installer, I've yet to succeed with v93. v90 has worked for me previously. The 160MB patch will be painful however, so I'd suggest using [thread=13610]Fiel's patcher[/thread] for it.

A file error isn't going to be fixed by using the web browser launcher.

I would suggest running a program like Piriform's Defraggler to rebuild the data block fragments across the hard drive. That alone should clear up most of the issues. Checking the anti-virus for possible conflicts would help as some anti-virus clients are not MapleStory friendly.

I've reformatted my laptop and reinstalled windows. It still won't work. Since I'm running a now clean windows, I have no anti-virus; that's not the issue.

I think the only way for me to get around this is to have someone upload the MapleStory folder for me. So far... this is just impossible, and so ridiculously poor.

Quick update: I've now tried to install on my laptop, running windows 7, my desktop, running XP, and my sister's laptop, running vista, and the installation has failed each time. I've tried different setup files, i.e. from the mirror nexon provides just to prove they didn't somehow get corrupted during download, but they've all hit an error and refused to install.

This can't be my problem.

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure I'm just going to get the "failed to execute" message after downloading.

Are you attempting to install MapleStory on a User-Level account, an account with User Access Control enabled, or using a compatibility mode feature to install MapleStory?

No to all three.

Update: I installed the v93 files you provided, the game started to run, but failed on patching. I got up to Map.wz before it told me the patch file was corrupted and I should reinstall. BUT I CAN'T FUCKING REINSTALL. I'm getting annoyed now, this really shouldn't be happening.

There's a slight chance this could be a problem with your hard drive having a bad sector. When this happens any data written to an area like this will be corrupted and will not work correctly.

I have to ask, is the PC you're using more than 3 years old and/or have at any time in the past, has the PC been shut down without notice due to loss of power, or other type of crash?

I've tried this on three different computers with four diffferent harddrives.

kingdj333, no, NGM is not going to help.

It's now gotten to the point that when I double click the setup file, (including different setup files and the NGM setup), nothing happens.

After trying for a week and finding no solution, I have now logged a ticket.
