Maple does this all the time, nothing new.

We've had manga/anime characters, actors, famous chefs, and all sorts of other crap already in the game before.

I noticed J looks similar to Shinji one when I first saw him, mainly because of the hat. The other couple you mentioned look totally different though. I would render it as subconscious inspiration on Nexon's designers' side or plain coincidence.
