Can you find a Notebook without the quest being activated?

As the topic says, all of the screenies I have seen just show the Notebook/Laptop as Untradable, and a description about turning it into the Maple Admin, blablabla.

None of them have said that it is a Quest Item or anything. So, has anyone found a notebook without having the quest active? Beginners can't do the quest (I fail to see why we can't compete, but w/e <_< ), but if you can find a notebook without the quest, then I want to make sure I pick one up on my islander.

*I collect all kinds of untradable quest items and whatnot. I have 56 Graham Crackers from last December as well as Torr's Horn I also have 35 Wooden Boards and Rusty Screws from the time when they would drop whether you had the quest active or not*

Well, the admin has a done quest item above her head. I bet they drop without any quest. I havn't found any though...

Those notebooks are a b*tch to find ..only 1 person in my guild has found 1 notebook.. and it's out of 100 PEOPLE.

i found one pretty fast when hunting slimes, and i ever saw one again(cuz i was making steel at iron hogs(preparing for maker))

Unfortunately, the best slime spawn is like 1/100th of that at slime tree. :/

Agreed. They're a bit too much rare. Come on. I spent like 2-3 hours at Book Ghosts trying to find one with 2x Drop but I failed. Nothing, I didn't even find one.

Finally found a notebook on NoJobNoRules! Also proof that it drops whether you have the quest in progress or not (beginners can't complete the quest...Nexon is hatin, man D: )

Yay me! *Yea yea, its 10 days old but this subforum is do dead..bleh <_<* I think, at MOST, I've spent somewhere in the 3-8 hour range hunting for this during various times. :X

They increased the drop rate of Notebooks during the server check, I've found 3 training my HS mule at Slimes Dx.

I would have wanted to kill you, but they vastly increased the drop rate with the last SC. I've found tons of them now!

Actually, I was hunting leaves at that really tall map two maps south of Ellinia, and in about 15 minutes I found 12 Notebooks. No 2x, no joke. They're common as hell if you kill nothing but slimes. I'd say they drop as often as those slime bubble things.

Yeah, I thought I was lucky as hell when I found my first two but after the third Notebook I found I went to look around the Nexon Announcement forums and I became so disappointed D:

Schnapps, seriously? I guess I can chuck the Notebook quest into the completed section without breaking a sweat xD
