is DEX useless now?
#1
since i have been told that everything accuracy related is now determined by level,i was thinking of popping all those AP resets and remove as much dex as i can and put it all into str

good idea/bad idea?

My Drk has 72 base dex. If I had the money, I'd go dexless, however these new lvl 130 equips requiring 160 dex look promising. With my equips and some of the potted gear i have, I'm just shy a few points for the 160 dex but that new big bang ring will fix that. So i'm remaining with my 72 base dex.

It really comes down to personal preference.

Would you rather:

Have a bit more dmg with higher str (or if you have amazing %str equips, a lot more dmg)
Have more weapon/armour options.

Edit: Just noticed you're a Thunder breaker. Don't waste a ton of money going dexless on a character you only have 30 more lvls with.

Never spend NX to fix a character that is worthless at level 120. There just aint no point in building Cygnuses for anything other than to get it to 120 as fast as possible. With the BB update, 120 is easy regardless of class and stats.
If it was a Brawler or a Warrior I'd say yes, reset. Dex really is worthless, and if you aim to be among the high tier damage dealers 160 Dex aint that hard to get from equips, just expensive.

You could keep it that way and try to get up to 160 dex for the equips we'll get one day. 66 points out of str isn't going to kill your damage that much.

All of those weapons and equips require a person to be lvl 130 to equip. A cygnus knight would have no chance in hell of ever equipping 1 =s.

Cygnus Knights get a skill in the LHC patch that allows them to equip stuff 10 levels in advance.

Unfortunately, Big Bang was the final nail in the coffin of the Knights of Cygnus.
Before that, a level 120 KoC could participate in at least some "end game" content (such as Maple has). Now, they can't even hit the more important bosses.

I disagree. Cygnus is an awesome feature. Level one to 120 and you will get a decent storyline, a killer boost to your main char and the ability to start a new adventurer directly at lvl 50 (tho it will be some months before it'll be implemented). Not to mention that it is actually fun to level it. What else could you ask out of it?

And what will you do with it the next week?

I have a level 120 DW. It wasn't too painful to level, that's true. And my main enjoys the BoF.
But that doesn't change the fact that the DW is now sitting gathering dust, like my level 50 CPQ mule. All I do with it is the occasional Echo. I suppose I could use it to hunt some area bosses for scrolls, but that can hardly be considered "fun".

Endgame bosses Cygnus can't do:
Chaos Zakum, Horntail's, Pink Bean, Shietty-exp Showa bosses, Time Temple mini-bosses.

Cygnus can do:
Zakum (lvl110), Papulatus (lvl125), Pianus (lvl110), CwK PQ (lvl120), Dragon Rider PQ (lvl120), Bigfoot, Headless Horseman, All Party Quests, All mini bosses.

So, unless you really like the zOMG Horntail / Pinkbean drama, Cygnus are still quite ok... Smile

P.S. About DEX-reset... Don't you need DEX to equip your knuckles? o.0

I stand corrected. For some reason I remembered Zakum as being 140, like Scarlion and Targar.

Ah, I forgot about that, but by then why would you want some weapon that you could never trade again? Well I guess I wouldn't understand how the pvp system would be like but, I believe you actually have to pvp to get those stuff. Meh, I suppose its just me that got bored because I ran out of stuff to do after Cygnus hits 120.

Here is an idea. Stop viewing Cygnuses as regular characters. They are a sidequest, with a good reward for the real game, but still only something the most casual of players could call main. So what if it collects dust? Most of my mules are only there to hold mesos and items anyway. Devil is right about the bosses, however a 120 Cygnus will get asskicked by normal characters because it is not hard to get higher than 120. Leveling a Cygnus to use as a boss character is just plain nonsense. It is not even viable to earn money through the bosses that low since their drops are just about worthless now.

Oh, I agree.
I viewed my Cygnus just as you say, as a somewhat more-difficult-than-usual quest for a permanent 12 attack buff for my main.
I'm not complaining about her collecting dust.
I was actually agreeing with you telling the OP that as much as he liked TB, it becomes useless at 120.

My post was not directed at you so much as to the Don Quijote of Cygnus defenders, out battling the windmills again.

Well:
- lvl120 Cygnus (670 base mainstat + 80 equips mainstat = 750 mainstat) with +300% potential equips = 3000 mainstat
- lvl160 Adventurer (800 base mainstat + 80 equips mainstat + 15% MWarrior with +150% potential equips = 2530 mainstat

In this case the Cygnus will easily outdamage a lvl160. It's all NX now... lvl nor class says anything anymore... That's the new Maplestory...

And it's not "easy" to get higher then 120 after Big Bang, around lvl130 leveling speed is about as fast as the old system with 2x exp, and family 2x exp is also gone now (1.2x now), so many more ppl will find it a LOT harder to lvl after lvl130 with Big Bang then before it...

he cant equip those equips and the dex requirement is not set in stone afaik

And to the above, don't forget 4th job adventurer skills are stronger and the 160 has more skills in total. Also the damage reduced by being levels under the mob deal... the new accuracy system...

So the cygnus actually still loses.

well....i AM planning to start a Mechanic and make him my main instead of TB once im done with him.

i heard blessing of the sprite got buffed so that non cygnus characters get +24 w.atk when my cygnus's level is maxed out.

is that a sufficient choice?

lol @ +300% main stat.
Suppose somebody is epicly godly (no VIP since cyg can't wear them yet):
+30% boss, +12% total damage on weapon
+21% on hat, glove, shoes, belt, pend, top, bot, earring, cape, sheild (if weapon is 1h, which is only applicible to DW for CK)
+14% on eye acc.
Totals: +224% main stat, almost 75% of the way to +300%, +30% dmg on bosses, + 12% dmg (which is better since it multiplies with the +main stat rather than adding)
How in god's name can anybody get +300%?

Also: give the similar equips to a lvl 130 adventurer, only make earrings, weapon and sheild VIP, not to mention the fact that adventurers can have lvl 30 attacking skills.
Conclusion: nobody in their right mind would even attempt to reach +300% on a CK (let alone achieve it, which is impossible unless I missed something)

BTW: Anybody know how much % dex lachrymus has?
