Which was a stupid plot twist CLAMP brought up in an attempt to make it a somewhat pure love story.

Was put there for a reason, actually. Still rather dumb though.

Yeah, well I didn't really read much farther as I was pretty put off by that one bit, so...

ANYWAY, dat PvP. How do you think they're going to balance it? Hopefully they won't pull some stupid system similar to CPQ, but I just can't see how they could possibly balance it with all the skills we have. I mean most of the classes can hit the entire screen for massive damage (one class can set people's HP to 1), cover the screen with Poison Mist providing extreme area denial, and of course the problems of some classes being ranged and having much more mobility than others (how can a Hero compete against an NL who can not only attack from a distance but also run away extremely efficiently? It's like those goddamn pro scouts in TF2 except you have even less of a chance against them). Even with some severe nerfing to damage they'll still have a hell of a time balancing the game without completely gutting or banning skills form classes thus ruining their unique abilities.

But there will be more than one mode of PvP, right? I can see team battle being more balanced to allow for other classes to cover weaknesses (and of course a Bishop, you can't get anywhere without a healer in any game) but still it'll probably be hard. I hope they add in some more modes like CTF or control points or payload or king of the hill or some sort of escort (but there'd be griefers galore with that last one).

There are three modes you can enter:

- Survival: Battle without restrictions and rules.
- Team Match: Battle with teams.
- Ice Knight: One person gets chosen as Knight and the other players need to survive from the Knight.

Fixes unbalancing perhaps.

Not exactly, there is still the problem of mechanics. In a fight between an NL and a Hero, the NL will curbstomp the Hero. The Hero has poor mobility and a lack of ranged attacks outside of ground smash (which doesn't seem to have all that amazing range to begin with), whereas the NL has a fast, powerful ranged attack in Triple Throw, and not only that, he can quickly escape from the Hero with Haste and Flash Jump, even jump over the Hero when (if) he's cornered, and has a skill which allows him to siphon health from the Hero. In this scenario it doesn't matter if the stats and levels are balanced, the way the skills inherently work is not.

Well if defense works, a hero would be able to reduce the damage of the NL by a ton.
But yea, will be interesting how nexon plans to balance it.

PvP in Maplestory will NEVER work as long as there are ranged classes with extreme mobility, and melee classes with essentially no way to close the gap. Ranged will basically wtp pwn any melee.

Not to mention, uh, the lag issue? Everyone knows that maple clients aren't individually synced. This is most noticeable in the Alien PQ during the jump quest type phase.
Everyone was jumping at the same time on the top platform, but notice how your other party members animation came 1-2 seconds after yours did? No way in hell they can accurately balance character movement, damage, and abilities around essentially an unsyncable client without a major client->server rewrite.

haha oh boy xD This is going to be interesting.

Sounds even more like DFO. All it comes down to in the end is skills and equips.

it's cause asian languages don't have R's (and there's one more sound. might be T's) i think. That's why it's so hard for some asian people to learn english.

well, hero VS NL wouldn't be the best example - if the hero catches the NL, he lost (hero stuns with shout\magnet\coma, darkness with panic, magic crash to pretty much slow down the NL to nothing). the thing is - hitting the NL with shadow shifter and his huge ass avo... not easy.

how about they just not pair up a melee and a range character? That seems a tad bit unfair...

Now bandit + hero would be interesting.

Watch monster magnet work in the arena, would be maplestory's version of Blitzcrank from LoL.
