Sigh.
In GS as a whole you get Djinn and have to spread them out evenly, right? You can have them as either "set" or "standby", one of these modes allowed for them to do something different than usual. In battle, there was always a little djinn icon beside the magic icon (I think, I'm trying to remember exactly what it was like). While mixing Djinn in the menu was a necessity both for completion and exploration, specifically using them in battle was never a necessity. And that is what I mean. I used their "strength" from the mix and match to mash the attack button, and I used the magic they enabled, so you could say that you have to use them, but I don't think of anything less than specifically calling upon them as using them.
In GS3, when you use their specific skills like "Sap" they go into standby mode immediately after. If you want to use them in battle, you have to use a turn to "re-equip" them into set mode. The picture infection just posted shows them in standby mode. I don't know if it worked the same in GS1/2 because I never, ever used them in battle.
I should also note that I only own GS1. Isaac understands what I'm saying and is informing me about the secret bosses with some Djinn Storm skill (I never fought them) that are impossible to defeat without using summons. So I guess given that it would be understandable why you'd question my beating the game without using them. I just powered through the main story of GS1.

That's how they worked in GS1/2, yes. Use their ability, then they go to standby, wherein the can be used for summoning, then recovery period, then active-mode which gives access to their ability. repeat.

Kind of. But I play with max brightness and the volume way up.
Also, starting over. Permanently missing Djinn sucks.

I'm using a guide for the djinn. I missed a summon in the beginning, but I used ths AR in my R4 to walk through the mountains to get it. Seems like that's one of the disappointing things of this game.
Also, 20 hours in now. Should have it beat in 2 more days. This game is fucking LONG.

Wow, really? That's kind of surprising, especially since the R4 is usually the thing that doesn't work with games.

The most recent firmware update was on the 26th of November. (26-28th...somewhere in there)
You would think that they would have accounted for this game, but I guess not. Now I just have to play the waiting game.

Game is SO GOOD.
It's so nice to play a traditional jRPG, there have been so few that embrace turn based battle systems recently. Exploration is rewarding and the interactivity of the maps is spectacular. Go pay $35.

Oh, I plan on paying for this game. I just don't have the money right now. This game deserves every ounce of support it can get.
I'll most likely be writing a review for it when I'm finished in a few more days.

I'm dropping this game, I wish i didn't but i am. The whole missable Djinn is annoying. Am i supposed to like run around in circles in every spot to see if theres a missable djinn in the world map ? Am i supposed to not move along in the story because i cant figure out a puzzle and would have liked to come back to it later but quite obviously i cant. I like Golden Sun but i rage too easily over stuff like that and i dont want to follow a guide.

I beat it in like 2 days. Nonstop gaming. lulul.
I honestly like it. I didn't think the battle system would get THAT good.
I beat everyone but Dullahan. That guy is STILL tough as ever
Anywho they have SOOO much hints about a second game. The continous mention of Piers, Kalay, the ending, Amiti, etc. Speaking of Amiti did anyone Spirit Sense Amiti on final battle? :3 I saw that coming.

I just beat it this afternoon and have just finished 3 of the optional bosses. On my way to CBI right now.
Not super impressed with the story or length of the game. Dungeons are incredible though.

Beat it two days ago.
clocked in around 28 hours
and then clocked in 2 more after the "extras".
Also about the ending:
Good game but it's cinematic heavy on some of the most annoying parts (obvious ass puzzles get delayed because of cut scenes and conversations which kind of take me out of the game) and hella text heavy. Some characters barely make much of an impact, there's at least 2 playable characters names i don't remember, there's actually a lot of problems with the characters were they're just poorly written... seriously one character basically dooms the world for his sister (I'm all for family but i was really hoping he die or something especially since he was a prick throughout the entirety of knowing him up until you save his sister to the point i swear he'd be a mini boss or something). As well the last 1/3 of the game seemed rushed like you get the last of your 2 characters no more then like 1 temple apart (and you do at least 50 temples/caves throughout the game so that's saying something). As well there's not a lot of enemy variation, just a lot of re-colors.
However it's worth the buy @ $35 for a game that last well over a week for even a hardcore player (depending on when you pick it up, and your scheduled, etc...)

OMG! I just got around to playing it last night. Clocked about an hour in. Saved Garet's kid and just departed for my journey. Thoughts?
Holy pomegranate.
That is is all. The music was great, I loved the 3D animations for the summons. I kept using Djinn and stuff to get to the summons. Judgment is an amazing summon. I love it.
