Online dating sites.
#1
What do you guys feel about this? I'm asking because I'm interested in knowing. Not going to bother with "researches claims [...] easier to online date.", etc. But I do think that technology has advanced so far that it's made it easier to select a more compatible partner. Of course, the problem with this is that it's subjective of the person's personality. If they prefer to be in a relationship in which their partner has some things in common, and there being a lot of differences, dating sites that uses "questions with similar answers" won't work for this scenario. But if they enjoy relationships in which both partners have a lot in common, and only slight differences, I guess that would work.

Note that this topic has nothing to do about ONLINE RELATIONSHIPS, but only about sites that promotes knowing other people through other means as a form of communication, and then taking that a notch or two up. Hopefully, they live within a relatively short distance of each other. We're not talking about sh`it that's like STATES away. Unrealistic and almost never works.

You'd probably get more out of it in ten years.

Never had any success with them. Yet, former friend of mine was getting dates off of it at a rate of two a week, roughly.

It all depends on how you present/sell yourself.

I'm sure they're about the same level of crapshoot as any thing else in life as far as actually finding a soul mate, but for actually meeting people they work well enough.

Then again gay men have a different, and more consistent, intended usage for those sites than most straight people.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Jeez, beat me to the punch.

As for dating sites, im kinda torn, i used to think that a way to find someone a lot like you was perfect so online dating was a pretty cool idea. But then as years went on I realized I had at one point developed strong feelings for someone, who despite all the differences between me and them, sincerely kept trying to make dating each other work, and i liked her not for what we had in common, but what we had between us.

I'm not going to generalize all date site users since i never used one, but i wonder how well they focus on the whole bond-building element: do they try to get people to really put effort into whomever they choose? Or do they encourage you to 'skip' people and keep flipping through pages until you find one who doesn't bore you within the 1st week?

Cause if its the latter i can't endorse them.

Edit: Thinking about it, this kind of thing would (or probably does) work awesomely in places like Korea or Japan if my perceptiion of both areas are correct. They're more densely populated than the states right? Probably could end up RP dating someone in MS there and find out they're a hour drive away...

lol yup, just checked on wikipedia: United states ranks 178th in population density whereas SK and Japan are 22 and 36th respectively... no wonder most of america looks down on it so harshly, prolly QQing cause their love is states away.

That's a common misuse of the concept. You're not supposed to try to find people just like you - You're supposed to weed out people who have qualities you absolutely can not abide. Remove the deal breakers, interact with the rest to see where you stand.

Yeah. Tongue
Don't even know why I still have it anyway, the person and I aren't speaking anymore, so there's no real reason to.

I have never once got a date from OKCupid in like 10 years there.
Meanwhile I regularly meet people from various other sites. I think OKCupid attracts people with unrealistic ideals or something.

That's what I supposed. I've never had any success with it. 'Course I'm a cheap bastard and don't have the want to go anywhere else. On my list of priorities, women rank in around 6, sometimes 7.

Gay guys have it easier. We have adam4adam, manhunt, squirt and dozens others that are absolutely clear on what the guys are there for.

No drama and beating around the bush.

There are heterosexual sites like that as well, that are just for dating/socializing, and straight up NSA sex. 'course a lot of sites double dip, but that's to draw in a larger audience. If I felt like paying some BS membership fee I'd be on some sh'it like eHarmony or Match.com.

And once again it's all about finding what works for you and if you work for what you're looking for. Say man A loves woman B, but woman B is attracted to man C and not man A. Then man D and woman E come along, and they all want to have a big party but man A and C don't want to get involved in that sort of thing.

No, that one is particularly vile. It's for anonymous public sex type things.

I'll take a set of well muscled pecs any day.

Statistically, the divorce rate is lower for people who've met in online dating sites.
