I think the biggest problem with the "it's coming very soon" is most of us on this forum have been waiting for BB since like may or whenever it was announced, so mentally we've been waiting longer. But the average population who doesn't keep up to date with KMS content mentally doesn't wait that long, so it's enough time for their hype to last.
Besides, all hype does is a marketing technique.

It couldn't possibly mess this up THAT badly. It would be such an utter failure of the company, on so many levels, to wait till December. Consumer spending in January has taken a nosedive in recent years, so that's not a very viable month for releasing new content. February's been flat, so that's doable. Business-wise, if Nexon really does release Big Bang in December, I'd say they're a dead-in-the-water company. It won't be just WoW that will eat them alive in the market.
Well put, Lozmaster. It only makes sense to beat your competition to market. Historically speaking, it has garnered more winners than losers. October still looks like the best month to begin launching Big Bang.
You should REALLY stop making such poor assumptions, they're quite bad.

Same, after about 4 years of MS I need some big change. I'm not sure if Big Bang will get my fun back, but seems like it. Map and monster revamps will make it seem like I'm playing MS for first time again, knowing nothing about where everything is. Knowing nothing about the drops, training places etc. UI is fresh so it's like new game. I can OPQ and LPQ on my Aran. HELL YEA! New curve will probably get me to train again, timewaste ftw. I guess new curve will make training Mechanic easy too (ofc I'm only making one for the ring, assuming it stacks with Lilins). Changes in npc prices and stuff will make mesos worth more and therefore fix the terrible market of gMS (I hope). If we will also get Cash Item Trade, I won't complain about NX advantages anymore. I will get myself Arclaive and my 4th job skillbooks and finally... reach 200.

And in the eyes of most, Blizzard is king of MMOs. They're all in competition with each other, as one MMO publisher/developer to another. Are you kidding? You ever been to the complaint boards? Blizzard has 80 pages of complaints about they're customer service and NEXON only has 16. I think Blizzard is doing worse than NEXON in the terms of customer service. So bad that one guy said he waited 2 years for a response and then by the time he got it he had already quit.

blizzard has way more players than maplestory so complaints are guaranteed to be more.

Maplestory doesn't have as many active players as WoW does. Nowhere near as many. Yet the ratio of Nexon criticisms to players is far higher than WoW criticisms to players. Do not give me extreme examples. Give me average turn around times. For Maplers it's 2 weeks to a month. For WoWers it's less than a week. We have Maplers at southperry alone who are well on their way to waiting 2 years for Nexon to fix their problems.
Chameleonic Wrote:Nexon's business model and business practice allows them to completely ignore what anyone else does in the industry. They have shown time and again that they do what the want, when they want regardless of what others are doing...they effectively have no competition.
If they had no competition, their profit numbers would be much higher. But they aren't. They don't even release their profit numbers. They just give revenue numbers every so often and those numbers aren't impressively high.
This idea that Nexon profits hand over fist from some of you is quite strange. Is this just something from inside your head? In the business world, if you don't announce your profit numbers, you probably aren't making a whole lot of profit. Nexon hasn't even been announcing their revenue numbers as of late. Sure they have shown time and time again they do what they want, but that doesn't mean it spells profit or 'revenue maximization'. Why some people automatically assume this shows presumptuousness that might not even be worth listening.
So no, claiming they rake in tons of profit after every patch or that 'Nexon doesn't have competition' doesn't make much sense. Silly kids.

Why would you want to expose your profit numbers in the first place?

Because posting profit is a wonderful and simple way to inform everyone that a company is performing up to par and is, more importantly, healthy. Companies go at great lengths to try to give the impression they are profitable, some so far as to manipulate accounting books to make a company look profitable (Enron scandal).
Well you would ask, "But I'm not an investor, so why should I care?"
If an MMO is causing a company to bleed money, gamers won't invest too much into it for fear of the company pulling the plug on the MMO. It also spells for catastrophic events on the MMO.
Take Ijji for example. They hosted Gunbound North America. They were really milking the cash items they had. The cash items gave such a large advantage over the 'free gear' that other players couldn't compete. Players didn't even need a quarter of the skill other players had to win. People stopped playing the game.
It created an endogenous situation. With revenue falling because of massive player drop out, Ijji put even more cash items up, with bigger benefits. This alienated people who originally bought premium items, as their gear was now considered useless.
Then Ijji increased the cap on stats. Is this sh!t starting to sound familiar?
Eventually the game became so unprofitable that Ijji dropped the game and did not renew its publishing deal with Softnyx. All players were transferred over back to Gunbound International, only to face the reality that the situation there was even more grave.
The microtransaction model is profitable for the short-term but its effects on games creates broken games, and so it is not viable for the long run.
Telling profit is also important for someone like me, who has been trained in the world of finance, not just economics.
There are two overarching strategies in finance, among others. These two are the biggest:
profit maximization
value maximization
If I see Nexon profiting too much, that is also a bad sign, as they may be encroaching profit maximiation strategies (aka milking a game to the ground, aka the Activision effect). You want to see the company maximize value, because that will ensure steady growth and for consumers, value. You don't want to see Nexon do to this game what Ijji/Softnyx did to Gunbound. You exchange long term viability and stability for short term profit. Then everyone loses.

The MTS is open to everyone and therefore everyone can get NX, not to mention the free NX offers that people can get. NEXON is paid by company to advertise on their site and then they also get money back from those opening the free surveys and etc for players to get NX. One mistake NEXON never crossed was giving a HUGE advantage to those who buy NX and also in return give players who don't want to buy it a chance to get it.

Yeah. You forgot pets that loot and auto-pot, cubes, merchants, howl of minerva, vip teleport rock, safety charm and all the crappy events like vega scroll or gacha boxes...

You cant forget about the Pam Song, 2x exp/drop either. Also the fact that you can buy Potential scrolls by using cubes.

Also; being able to use gacha to sell items to players is a huge, and yet subtle to many, advantage in the economy.
A new player that takes to gacha is very well off right from the start and won't even struggle for potions. Compared to me, who struggled to attempt to start a new server without using NX, once my initial training quest potions ran out, and NONE of the lv 10-25 quests awarding potions (With the single exception of Nella's kerning quest) now NOR MESO.
Until i just gave up and started looting at ch 1 henesys =\
Also, gacha is very effective at grabbing meso in the market, so if someone goes on a scrolling run; a gach user that also can boss for extra funds; is going to be able to be way more productive than someone who can just boss. Gacha is a huge advantage, but the way it affects the game is subtle.

Pets auto loot is more of a luxury than an advantage. Owl of Minerva is only good to save you long searching in the fm. Vip teleport rock is replace dby family pretty easily. I know many many people who NEVER use safety charms, Gacha boxes is usually stuff you can already get which are easy. Plus with the surveys and others there IS no more advantage since people get nx so easily. One of my guild mates got all his perm gear, hair, eyes. eye color, hair color, and cubed all his items just from the Free NX surveys. So no there is no advantage if its available to everyone.

Companies publicly listed on the stock exchange do that to keep confidence in their shares and their share prices up. Privately owned companies like Nexon have no need to do that, most prefer to keep their profits private. I dare say Nexon is doing much better than anyone thinks...
