How do you pronounce this word ??

Some people pronounce it like the chess piece Pawned....

Some people pronounce it like Poned.

I myself pronounce it Poned, and use the argument, you didn't just get chess pieced!! you got OWNED.

I used to pronounce it "pooned". :f6: Now, its poned

as in harpooned.

As far as I know, this is the most accurate story to what I had heard. So yeah, I'm seconding this and if you want, you can always check Urban Dictionary, they usually do have accurate origins of words along with the commentary people try to pass off as descriptions.

i may be incorrect but i believe it was a similar type of situation to the classic mis-translation "all your base are belong to us" but in a game that came around later. for the life of me i couldnt tell you what it was, but ive been told that one of the bosses was typeoed when he killed you. he was supposed to say you were owned, but it was misspelled pwned, and it kinda just stuck with the gaming/internet culture till now and probly on for a good while longer.
