I see alot of complaining about the torches going out on the minecraft forums. I think its fine as the torches last a set amount of time only while youre in proximity. So you have plenty of time to switch them for lanterns or something. I hope pumpkins are like cactus that spawn on different blocks or something and not a temporary event thing. Jack o Lantern house!

Apparently all currently placed torches will be changed to lanterns, so there's nothing to worry about.

That being said... if the update adds mobs to SMP, I'd like to suggest switching out our normal server world for Halloween only... so we can use this to go on a few adventures.

Mobs are already in SMP, but Erich turned them off because unkillable non-hissing Creepers are annoying. We could prepare torches, walls, and other anti-mob systems now to protect us. ;D

They will not spawn in well lit areas, so make a giant wall around town (3 blocks tall is enough to keep everything out) and littler the inside with torches and/or lava.

A cruel addition to that would be a small river-pit moat that diagonally drains to a 2-by-2 hole with lava pouring in the opposite corner. Fun little trap of mine, but not too practical unless you made your walls diagonally as well. That and it can backfire horribly.

I bought the game the other week. Once SMP is fully functioning, it will be awesome. I fully support the movement for a SouthPerry server, once this happens.
