I prefer IRC....you can interrogate people one-one-one there. On forums, you can't really do that because PMing takes too long and us regular users only have 50 space.

I'll be writing up the rules tomorrow, as we have finally reached a decision regarding supermasonry after hours of debate. What we're going to do is put each player in a group of three or four randomly. These groups may talk amongst themselves, but they won't know the roles of the other people. You could have a mafian, two mafians, all villagers, or hell, even neutrals in your little "sect".

sorry ray, but honestly this's the first time ive ever even played a mafia game, it's always seemed complicated to me; could you explain rules 16 and 17 with scenarios please?

I think I can answer your questions, and since I don't have anything better to do, I will!

For #16, basically, the player list is going to be divided into groups (randomly), proportional to the number of players. Let's say that the sign-ups stop at 15, the best balance then would be to have 5 groups of 3. Each of the 3 people within a group can communicate with each other outside of the gameplay thread, but only within their 3-person group. The exception is members of a mafia group. A mafian can communicate with the other 2 players in his group, as well as communicating with his mafian allies. So, let's break down the list hypothetically:
Group 1
1. TobiasBlack
2. Kurtle
3. Infection

Group 2
4. xBTAx
5. Lord Xela
6. Ceddybear

Group 3
7. DualReaver
8. ElectricSix
9. Darkmaniak


Group 4
10. ThatHurts
11. Russt
12. Will

Group 5
13. Mephisto
14. ClawofBeta
15. SteelSeraph

Obviously I didn't do the groups randomly , but this is just an example. A bolded name signifies a mafia member. So, the players in group 1 can all talk to each other privately, but nobody outside that group, except for Kurtle, who can also talk to ElectricSix, Darkmaniak and Will. The other 2 players in his group won't know this of course, it's left to them to attempt to figure it out. If that didn't help, then, sorry. :<

As for rule #17, I think Ray typo'd it a bit. It should read "Ther are [x] factions (in the game). There may or may not be neutrals (i.e. independent roles). Basically, the number of factions will be determined by the number of players who join, and to learn more about neutral roles you can read up at this website: http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page You'll probably want to check out the "Newbie Guide," "Rules" and "Roles" pages.

I put in "x" instead of numbers in some places because that's dependent on how many people end up playing. Adding to Meph's explanation, basically all the players in each group can have private communications (PMs, private IRC channels, IRV queries) with each other. In addition to that, all the bolded players can talk to each other, as they're mafia. The premise is that players can still have private communications, they just have to be careful what they say to who lest they tell the mafia their role.

You can discuss almost anything. The weather, who looks suspicious, what your role is (you don't have to tell the truth, remember!), that kind of thing. However, pasting anything I send to you is strictly prohibited.

It's not nearly as bad as it may seem at first. The last one was my first game and I don't think I did too badly. Big Grin I'm sure you'll do fine, and you can always pester Ray with any questions you have like I did. XP
