We Don't Need No Theme Mafia - signups
#1
Signups for a themeless mafia game. Will post rules when the game starts, there are a few things I need to fiddle with. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them in this thread before the game starts.

Rules

1. The game will cycle between Night and Day, beginning with Night 0. Killing will not work on Night 0.

2. Days and nights will last 24 hours each, or until majority/all actions are in.

3. Role PMs and result PMs may not be traded.

4. If you don't want to use your Night Role, please send a PM to me with the title 'Night x - Idling' anyway. This at least shows you're paying attention to the game.

5. Lynch votes must be bolded. No Lynch is not an acceptable vote. Please make sure that you unbold obsolete votes. In the event of a tie, neither user will be lynched.

6. There are items in this game.

7. Do not screenshot anything related to the game.

8. Do not talk about the game with or in front of living players while you are dead, unless allowed to by the host. You may still plan with your teammates if you're mafia, but only for the sake of planning strategies.

9. Do not impersonate other players or me. You may not fake logs, including logs with me.

10. If you have any questions about your role or the game please don't hesitate to contact me. If I'm on IRC I'll be on #southperry.

11. IRC is not required, but would be of great use.

12. The game ends when any win condition is fulfilled. All win conditions involve destroying every other faction.

13. There are x players in this game.

14. Priorities are set and kept secret. However, they can be changed through the use of abilities and items.

15. It is recommended that you create IRC channels on irc.gamesurge.net for the people you know you can trust. Give me access to these channels so I can keep an eye on what's going on. For those who do not use IRC a lot, here is how you secure an IRC channel.

16. Each mafia faction may communicate privately amongst themselves, and each group of masons (all players will be in a mason group) may communicate privately with one another. All other communication must take place in the gameplay thread.

17. There are x. There may or may not be neutrals.

18. Items may be distributed to others. PM me with "Give ITEM to USER".

19. I will provide a list of power roles that are in this game, as these roles are common knowledge to players that play mafia frequently.

Also, as I just mentioned on IRC, there was a rule change I was hoping to try imposing (I was expecting to host the next one). That rule being as follows: the same rules regarding the discussion thread I had in my game will apply to IRC - no serious game-related discussion can occur there. I say this for two reasons:
1) I know Mibbit makes IRC easy to access, but there are still the people who don't have the time to get on IRC and have a long discussion. It's much easier for said people to be able to look through the thread and post a reply, and it doesn't take much time.
2) What happened to Seraph. Yes, he was mafia scum. But the fact remains that the entire plan to vote him to death was apparently discussed in IRC, and then the day was just a giant unexplained bandwagon. For people who weren't in IRC or don't have time to use it, it's nice to be able to actually see the reasons for decisions and have a chance to defend themselves.
Again, it wouldn't necessarily be a permanent rule. I just want to try it out for at least one game and see how it goes. Maybe people will like it more, maybe they'll like it less. It's worth trying, though.

Also, I was going to put a ban on private discussion between non-mafia/masons/lovers, just to cut down on the threat of supermasonry. Dunno how people feel about that idea, but I know at least some of the players in my first game were very annoyed with the large quantities of communication.

I think Ray's rule of "I ALWAYS HAVE TO BE THERE" is fine personally. It becomes almost impossible to single out a mafia member without revealing your role. Oh you're the detective and you found a mafia? "How do you know!" *lynch*

Or, you know, people could actually follow the rules next time, seeing as one of the rules was "MUST HAVE IRC."
Tongue

I'm still debating as to whether or not I want to join this one. Seeing as the last one turned out...-cough-

I would play, but I don't like the fact that you have to use the IRC.
#15
Exactly. The "must have IRC" was (no offense) stupid, in my opinion. It's a FORUM mafia game, not an IRC mafia game. The heavy discussion should take place on the forum, where it's logged and easily readable to any and all players.

Agree with Alex on this COMPLETELY. Some of us, you know, have jobs that require us to actually *gasp* WORK! I was caught working 40 hours the week this happened and without people discussing it in the actual thread I WAS REALLY LOST. Minor issues should be discussed on IRC with main details being on the forum. Or at least, you know, show the log of what happened.

In a nutshell, I guess I can't host games like the ones I usually play on forums.
