Let's face it, a new server is likely (NOT a "zomg is nw servr cming" thread)
#1
To prevent the common knee-jerk reaction people often have to these kinds of threads, allow me to explain myself.

First we shall examine the server release dates, dating back to Bellocan (6th server)

Bellocan: Sept. 6, 2006
Mardia: March 21, 2007
Kradia: Oct. 2007
Yellonde: Aug. 2008
Demethos: Nov. 12, 2008
Galicia: Dec. 2009

The delays from one server's release to the next, starting with Bellocan->Mardia, are approximately:

(~6.5 months)->(~7 months)->(~10 months)->(~3 months)->(~13 months)

Giving us a reasonably accurate average (for our purposes) of 7.9 months.

It has been approximately 7 months since the last server release date, making it close enough to the average that a new server is a definite possibility during the next patch.

But there are three reasons the release is all the more probable excluding the 7 months reason above.

1) The Kradia to Yellonde delay was relatively above average at ten months which may explain why Demethos came early. We see the same phenomenon here: The Demethos to Galicia delay was exceptionally long at about 13 months, and therefore even a below average release time of 7 months between Galicia to (insert server 12's name here) may be possible since the server before that--Galicia--had a (really) long release delay.

2) Nexon America has seen financial growth despite an economic recession, meaning the number of new players is likely getting relatively higher year-to-year, further justifying a faster new server release delay.

3) Dual Blades. A new server came out with 2 of the 3 major new class releases. Pirates had Demethos and Arans had Galicia. Pirates may explain why Demethos came out early however, possibly invalidating point 1.

As for the usual "but the other 12342 servers are ghost-towns" platitudes, Nexon obviously has a financial interest in releasing a new server. And even if there are eventually 10 servers that are ghost-towns, then they could always do server merges as they have been a number of times in KMS.

The point is, your complaints about the "empty" servers largely do not matter when profits are at hand and there is a solution to such complaints anyhow.

Let them merge some servers first, then we can talk about a new one.

I'm doubtful. The newer servers still have low low populations. Is be more expecting a ch increase on some newer servers first.

Doubt it, they didn't with Evan so...

Yes Evan didn't have its "own" server. But the point is that it's obvious that releasing a new class is still a respectable indicator of a new server to come.

And I won't assume there are tl;dr-ers here, but those making the low population argument can at least explain why they can't release a bunch of (subjectively-rated) "empty" servers and then merge the servers, as has been done in the mother version of MS.

The trend seems to be release a ton of servers, then merge 3 at a time. Not the other way around.

Because they would do that with the servers that are low population, that are already there.

A 19 ch Mardia would be nice.

How about force moving half of scania to an empty server.

Have they ever merged servers?
Because that seems like a damn good idea.

It would only work with the low populated ones, imagine windia+ scania o.0

I don't think Nexon will give us a new server, I'm thinking they will wait untill big bang to release Nova.

I wish something like this would happen:

Nexon has a complete world rearrangement, where players can sign up to a world, and there would be a certain limit as to how many can sign up per world. Of course, that'd be way too much work, but wishful thinking. Frown Scania has too much people.

Maybe I could get some help here: What is Nexon's recent track record with giving a notice ahead of a time that a new server is coming? I've been on a quasi-hiatus as of late so I'm not too informed, but I know for a fact that Kradia was released suddenly (i.e. without notice) after a server check (I remember that day too well!) and that at least one server thereafter received an early notice.

The point is that if the last 3 or so servers all received notices ahead of time, then it's likely the 12th server won't come on the 21st as we didn't receive a notice as late as two days before the planned release (this is before the meso exploit issue was anticipated as Nexon made a wall post on their FB asking if maplers are ready for DB in two days or something to that effect).

Don't say that... they'll merge Scania and Bera or something.

A server merge wouldn't be bad, but they'd have to make more channels/minidungeons/boss channels for it to go well. Maplestory is just that type of game. Even in empty servers, it can be hard to get a good map. Making everything the size of windia or something wouldn't work out with alot of people.

A new server? I'd think they'd probably release one with Big bang, more than DB.

You know what, I think the true solution to servers is adding more mini-dungeons. I mean, there's nothing negative about them, other than obsoleting regular maps, but they're just an excellent addition to the game that needs to be used more. Less KSing, less complaining/fighting, a happier community.

They should..

-Add mini dungeons to nearly all trainable maps
-Add moar bossing channels
-Possibly moar FM rooms? (Or do people use Ch 2 regularly in big servers?)

And merge servers. Seriously.

Newer servers are like dead-alive. It's dead in the fact that you don't see many random people and there's not much activities going on (PQ's/Bossing/etc). But all the training maps are full and if there's 2x exp event, you better log on 3 hours early or just not bother going on at all. It has the negatives from a crowded server and the negatives from a dead server without maintaining the benefit D8

Instead of having 20 maps in the data specific to Mini dungeons, have them create instances. Literally no limit to how many per channel, let alone server.
