Lost's ending

The finale was good.

It doesn't surprise me that people who valued answers to arbitrary questions didn't like the finale. Honestly, did you guys think the finale would focus on some question raised in season 2? So you watched a show for 6 years (121 episodes) and didn't feel emotionally invested in any of the characters at all?

Un-f'ucking-believable.


So what would have made you happy? Were you expecting Eloise to come out of nowhere with a 2 hour powerpoint presentation to answer all the Island's questions that didn't really matter in the larger scope of things? Did you really think everything was going to get answered?

Some things were just left to your imagination, fill in the gaps as best as you can.


Things like The Light were already explained earlier but you didn't realize it. Did you notice the blinding yellow light that Charles Widmore blasted at Desmond earlier this season? It's the same energy that's at the Heart of the Island. It's electromagnetic energy. This is the same energy that was at The Swan. What makes the Island special is the electromagnetic energy that it has. Pierre Chang also mentioned this same exotic matter in The Orchid video. Mother wasn't able to properly explain The Light to Jacob and The Man in Black because those events took place about 2000 years ago.




Also while I'm here: The Island was NOT purgatory. I know there's some people out there who still don't understand this. Everything that happened on the Island really did happen. Jack's dad even says this in the church. The only thing that you could consider purgatory on the show was the collective consciousness that the people in the church created in order to find each other after they left the mortal world. They created it because they valued the time they spent together and they agreed that the Island was one of the most important aspects in their life.

Regarding other things in the flashsideways: Eloise selfishly wanted Daniel to stay with her because of what she put him through while he was alive, she wasn't ready to move on and kept Daniel from moving on so they could be together. The same goes for Ben, he wasn't ready to move on because of Alex and his unresolved issues. Regarding David, Jack's son; He doesn't exist. He's just something Jack created to resolve his daddy issues regarding him and his own father.

I think you are spot on with Daniel Faraday and Eloise. But a power point prob. would have been more productive.

I call bulloney on the whole flash sideways because it's impossible to tell where that reality ends and where their special place begins.
"Whatever happened happened" In that world, that David kid was as real as anyone else so are we to believe that he just burst into flames when Locke reminded Jack that he didn't have a son?

Hurley and Ben shouldn't have even been there in the 1st place. I only say that because as the new protectors of the island they should be essentially immortal. (not invincible) Unless that alternate reality was 10000 years in the future or something.

Adopted mother brutally killed Jacob and MIB's birth mother. Not a very heroic thing for a guardian to do. Her story about protecting the light could have meant anything since she doesn't refer to the temples, others or anything. She could just be some kind of alien and the light is her life support or something.

When the islands light was turned off, both Jack and dark locke lost any kind of powers that they might have had. Not to mention that afterwards Jack just walked in and turned it back on like a light switch.

Jack's dad said there is no now. Notice how Kate was so happy to see Jack, as if she hadn't seen him for decades? Well, she probably didn't. The events happened as every person died; imagine that happening when Boon died in season 1. We just saw it from Jack's point of view, which was when he was dying.

I just finished watching the finale and I'm lost on when/how/where the sideways begins/exists. If the island really existed, what about the time they weren't on the island, did that exist too? I understand that the sideways is more of a limbo, waiting for all the characters to arrive before setting off for "whats next" as a group, but if they were all ignorant to the "past" whats the point? I mean that was this 2nd purgatory world created at the point they crashed, or rather always exists/existed and they only reclaimed memories as they died?

I'm mad that way back when the producers said definitely not on the purgatory idea, which to a degree was true, but the way they did it was such a cop out.

Also why did there need to be protectors when the MIB had died? Whats with the plane at the end? Why were those chars the ones on it? How was it explained that these people that just happened to survive one plane crash magically were in another and survived again?

I was also like OMG Lapidus!!!!!!!! too, I soo called it at work that he wasn't dead, everyone told me he went down with the ship and was dead, but no! hes alive!

expecting no purgatory is f'ucking stupid. that's like saying no one should ever die. they gave the finale the eternal feeling finales are supposed to have. would it have made you guys happy if they all became immortal and lived happily on the island forever?

also, i'm pretty sure they intentionally left out whether MIB was really bad or their mother was, if the third to last episode told you anything it should have been that none of them are exactly good or bad.
