You should theoretically have no issue. If the school has a firewall thats their deal and you cant really get around it.

However if it is just your own personal interwebs then tell us what firewall/antivirus youre using.

It can't even update. It errors (as seen by previews SS) at creating a key.

Okay i wanted to make sure. In that image it looks like you were trying to download Portal.

try this i suppose...

"Log out and exit Steam

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Steam (the default location). If you have installed Steam to a different folder, please locate that folder now.

Rename the file "ClientRegistry.blob" to ClientRegistryOld.blob and then close the Steam folder

Launch Steam and login. Steam should update, re-create the file, and then you will be able to play"

Are you on your own private internet? Or are you on someone elses internet?
If there is a router involved it might become a teeny bit hairy.

Ill continue to read over these....troubleshooting instructions.

Are you on a router?

No. Wireless.
But I don't see how that would interfere.

So the wireless has direct access to the modem? No router is splitting the connection?

If there is a router in the mix then you would have to open router ports for steam to connect. I dont know your exact setup so thats why i said it may get hairy.

lol!
Okay, just try one thing. Open Avast and find the "Web Shield" and open "Settings"/"Expert Settings" if you are using the newest Avast.

In here click exclusions and add:

https://www.steampowered.com
http://www.steampowered.com
https://store.steampowered.com
http://store.steampowered.com
*.steampowered.com

and maybe? *.steampowered.com/*

and...that should be the lot of them. I dont know exactly if it uses https or http so i included both?

Okay, then somewhere in the selections to view certain parts of Avast (Namely the P2P Shield, Mail Shield, Network Shield, Web Shield, and...some other shield i forgot) select the "Web Shield" there should be a Settings button somewhere.

In the Settings window you will find an exclusions tab (I think it only appears when you click the "Advanced Settings" button or something).

Its not that i cant get it working, i know i can probably get it working..... Its just that not having a computer im working on infront of me, makes things SUPER difficult.

Hey, thanks for the info about the free Portal download! Never took the time to try this game before, even though I knew of it's existence... Tongue

Although it was a very funny and entertaining game, I think it was really short... The whole game only took me about 4 hours to complete... still it was great fun! Smile
