Who'd want to work 13+ hours in one day to cater to whiners all the time? Complainers should be thankful there's even an update.
Also, does it make sense for Nexon, a company some people find greedy, to want to extend their downtimes and thus pay their workers for overtime?

...maintenance and updates probably aren't completed by a single crew. It's quite likely that they have multiple persons coming in halfway through the update to take over.
and lol at "complainers should be thankful there's even an update." Stale content would lead to a massive boycott, even from the TRU NEXON DEFENDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nexon doesn't have a lot of choice in the matter. Updates are the only thing that keep people playing because unlike WoW and many other MMO's, maple doesn't have interesting content.

Why thank them for a generally incompetent effort, especially when they're for the most part required to come out with updates? I thank nexon when i am personally happy with an addition, and that hasn't happened in a long time.
Why would a company not pay their workers overtime if not paying them means a game server that is halfway updated/riddled with bugs?

Updates are not what keep people playing maple, their are some players that dont even bother with new content in ms. Truthfully how many people would have gone to magenta if it didnt have the maker quest attached to it? That was my first/last time going to magenta.
It doesn't have interesting content but you still continue to play interesting

Magatia has hands down one of the best quest lines in the entire game...

Well who knows how many people are working on this patch. But they're not just working on the patch they have other things to take care of.
Would there be a massive boycott? Even after all these patches... what are people still doing? They're training, fm-ing, Zakking and lolHT-ing... things we got ages ago. If you're not satisfied then quit, but the since so many people here actually complain about silly patches like these and the time it takes for it to be completed, I'm guessing that boycott won't be happening anytime soon.

How would you know that? Maybe the workers are doing their best and honestly you couldn't do any better than Nexon.
Nexon will pay overtime because they have no choice. If they could choose, obviously they would not want to pay anybody overtime, like most companies.

Because I've spent thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars on it and it's difficult to just let that all go to waste. Because I've got contacts that I can only contact through maple. Because it's addictive and I'm weak. And mostly because it has potential, Nexon just doesn't take advantage of it. I only come back when there's something I hope will be good (like evan... what a waste of time that ended up being though.) I just came back from a 3 month hiatus before that patch.
And uh, you mean MAGATIA in which case you'd be very wrong. Magatia is the richest training ground in the game, from 20 to 60, Magatia is the fastest place in the game and tons of people use it. You would know that if you went there for more than just your maker quest, so don't make assumptions.
"Some players" =/= the majority. If you've ever noticed, about 3 weeks into any given patch the number of players online drops dramatically. That's because a lot of people get bored and break until the next patch is released. None of the patches we've seen in almost a year have an real "staying" power besides Time Temple and Aran, and even that is for a select few.
MapleStory's content isn't interesting.

The new content brings people back and sucks them into the game again for a while until the realise how boring it is. I didn't mean they just play the new content for their entire duration, sorry.
HTers and stuff fall into a special category of people who think they own the game and therefore have no reason to quit. Zaking groups quit all of the time because guilds fall apart due to inactivity.

That's not quite true. My guild for instance only logs on to HT.

They could be pouring their hearts blood onto their keyboards while summoning the thunder gods hammer to punish employees for stupid s'hit, and that still won't change the fact that generally, Nexon america's empathy and motivation can be contained in a pill bottle. There are a lot of situations where the imput of someone who knows the game well would be extremely valuable in solving situations in a timely manner. (remember BF tweaking?)
Then there's no point in saying that they aren't greedy for paying overtime...

Well Nexon is doing all this for money. Even if they don't fix BF or whatever, that doesn't stop them from making money. Why should they care about fixing things in a timely matter if they're not losing money for it.
I remember something about 20% of players generating 80% of the profits. Those 20% are probably the most addicted to this game. If that's the case, then anybody leaving Maple to play another game is probably in that 80% of players that generate only 20% of the profits and Nexon couldn't care less about those people. Nexon will focus on draining more money from that 20% of players hence all these gachi updates we've been getting.

I'm not going to argue against retarded business sense. Companies always either care for the customer in their actions, their wallet, or a deceptive mix of both. Sucks that the most successful ones are the greediest ones.

Well to me this retarded business stuff makes sense to me. I hope it's not insinuating that you just can't respond to it, beacuse arguing on this forum is such good entertainment even if I'm wrong ;] Nexon doesn't need to care about the customers to bring in the money. Money is the most important thing about a business, since that's the goal of all businesses and none of them can survive without it.
Companies only care about the customers to further their reputation and generate money that way.

You misunderstand. Of course it makes sense. (i'm majoring in a business school, how could it not?) I'm talking about "Why should they care about fixing things in a timely manner if they're not losing money?" If that's how they want to run the company, fine. I'm not going to argue against it because obviously since money makes the damn world go 'round, why bother arguing against it when it clearly works? The only thing i'm arguing here is morals and ethics, neither of which exist in that s'hitty business model.

Well, Maple is free to play. That seems moral/ethical enough to me. How is it unethical/immoral for Nexon to not respond to the needs of a minority?

It being free is only for business. What's so saintly about making it free? It's like a priest luring in small children with free candy and then assraping them later.
Minorities and majorities shouldn't exist when it comes to resolving situations. In fact, i don't even think the players should be thought about when it comes to resolving situations. It's a situation, meant to be solved. It has nothing to do with the players because as a company they are required to fix it.
@ above: Wow already?

The game is free, but that doesn't mean you have to do business with them. It's a personal decision of every player to pay Nexon money.
Also, why is it required for Nexon to fix errors in their game? For example, Nexon decided to fix BF. BF was always able to be killed, so Nexon must have been quite thoughtful for their players to make it easier to handle. I'm gonna guess there's nothing like this in the contract of the Terms of Service either.
As for minorites and majorities (not a good choice of words on my part), I think it can play a part. Of course, I'm no expert when it comes to business but if a large portion of players are being affected by a bug, such as IP banning then Nexon will surely address that. If it's a situation that affects very few people, they will just ask you to direct the problem to the ticket responders. The severity of the situation dictates the action the companies take. If it's something small then it'll be last on their list of priorities, and the opposite is true for something of a larger scale.

You can still be assf'ucked by nexon regardless of the amount of money you give them. Whether it be $0 or $1m.
Huh? I'm talking about the time when they made BF do 30k damage and then decided to fix it without making a patch, which only resulted in players getting D/Ced when they get hit by BF. Why is nexon required to fix errors? Because it's their responsibility as a company and a business.
Yeah, i didn't mean to apply that thought process to problems in general. D/C hacking is pretty huge and it's been going around for months.
