Dragonite G1

Omni Wrote:Are you being sarcastic? Like I said, I can easily change the HP-ban easily, I did that to make the tourney a bit harder on purpose. Well, I'm still open to the Focus Band/Sash comments, so I'm willing to listen. If I see enough votes on unbanning one of them, that's fine. I'm not unbanning both.

I think most people are in agreement that band should be banned (no pun intended). Nobody is going to use it anyway. 10% chance to survive a deadly blow is too low to rely on. It'd be best to rely on an item that you can actually rely on.

Focus sash gives you a 100% chance of surviving with 1 HP if you get knocked out in ONE hit. That means Stealth Rock and other entry hazards kill this item. On top of that, it means this item can't be used on Tanks (like Metagross) to allow them the last laugh when they know they're going down in one more hit. The item is far from broken; you have to know how to use it right, or it won't work at all.

Point taken. Only Focus Band is now banned. Any other objections regarding rules @ everyone?

Also man, if you don't want luck to play a factor in this game, why not take out Paralyze and anything with low accuracy. Luck is practically 60% of competitive battling.

And no, the rules are fine now.

I'm still wondering why exactly you have NU banned though. Not like it particularly matters with OU available, since NUs will get eaten by OU.

Banning movesets are pretty redundant. It's dumb to ban moves like Dynamic Punch just because it has low-acc. That can be fixed with moves such as Gravity.

On the OFF chance Shoddy 2 comes out during the G1, what would we do? (I know this is out of Left field but w/e)
Also the Last thing i would say is just to allow everything BUT Ubers.

I don't see the point of allowing everything, because I'm damn sure if we're playing to compete, no one is going to use Pokemon from NFE. However, I'll add NU to the list of usable Pokemon. As for Shoddy 2, are there actual news about that? If that does come out, uhhh, well, I'll think of something then.

Shame you can't ban paralyze freezes.

I also disagree with no NUs allowed. Shuckle is great.

I didn't know Dragonite went through the first growth phase.

This seems interesting.
I may end up joining if I can actually get Shoddy to work.

Updated first post to:

-Unban Hidden Power
-Unban Focus Sash
-Unban NUs

@Yoyo: LOL. Well, the term G1 is used in a lot of tourneys from various games. G usually refers to Grand.

Oh, and must allowing Dragon types and Choice items is a bit weird. I mean, I know 99% of people use them, but it's still kinda weird.

Weird rules makes it fun and challenging. Oh yes, let's give it a random name and make it be like any other Smogon tourneys. That'd be boring. I've been in enough of those..

Would we be Strict on the Dragon clause or would you say let Gyrados count thanks to his long Affiliation with Dragons?

Strict on it, yeah. Only if it's an actual dragon. It's called Dragonite G1 because I wanted Dragon-types to play a huge role in this tourney.

Agreed. Rules are still being tinkered around with, and it's surely not written in stone. I do intend on keeping the rule with '1' Dragon-requirement and 1 Choice-whatever requirement though, just for the challenge.

I will sign up. My normal team fulfills everything except the HP rule, which has already been lifted.

Perfect. Just need your Smogon username and timezone. I'm assuming you usually go to Smogon anyways.
