Dragonite G1
#1
If anybody are interested, I'm planning on hosting a tournament around the middle of May. There is no official date as of today, however, rest assure knowing that the rules for this tourney will be different than typical tourneys, thus giving most of you more of a challenge.

Quote:[1] What is the Dragonite-G1?
[2] What tiers will we be allowed to use?
[3] What are the rules?
[4] Do we get anything for winning?
[5] General FAQ section
[1] What is the Dragonite-G1?
Dragonite-G1 stands for Dragonite-Grand 1. With Dragonite being my favorite Pokemon, and dedicating this as a way to remember an old friend on another message board that I used to communicate a lot with in the past. Unlike typical tourneys, this one has a few ..unique rules.

[2] What tiers will we be allowed to use?
Only these four tiers, and nothing else: NotUsed (NU), UnderUsed (UU), BorderLine (BL) and OverUsed (OU). You are allowed to mixed four types of tiers into a single team if you wish. You have many options, because you’re allowed to use all Pokemon within these four tiers. Using any other Pokemon from any other tiers will get you an instant-disqualification.

[3] What are the rules?
· Both parties must declare that it is an official battle and provide evidence in Shoddy Battle log.
· Shoddy Battle logs must be posted in thread in Spoiler-tags in tourney thread by one or both parties.
· All standard clauses must be on! Clauses are:
Quote:-Sleep Clause
-Freeze Clause
-Evasion Clause
-Timed Battle
-Strict Damage Clause
-Species Clause
-OHKO Clause
-Soul Dew Clause
· All Ubers are banned! No questions asked.
· One of your Pokemon out of your six must be holding onto either:
Quote:-Choice Scarf
-Choice Band
OR
-Choice Specs
· One Pokemon must be a Dragon-type, regardless if it’s mixed or not.
· The following held-items are banned:
Quote:-Soul Dew [Raises the Special Attack and Special Defense of both Latias and Latios by 50%.]
-Quick Claw [A hold item that occasionally allows first strike. It gives the holder an 18.75% chance of going first in its priority bracket and ignores the effects of Trick Room.]
-Scope Lens [Higher crit-ratio]
-Zoom Lens [Boosts crit-ratio or acc if holder moves after foe]
-Focus Band [10% chance activation]
· If you disconnect from a battle whether by accident or purpose, it is your fault. No excuses. Every 2 disconnects = 1 loss.
· Best 2 out of 3. If you win the first 2 rounds, or vice-versa, you or your opponent can debate on whether you want to battle the 3rd round just for fun.
· You are allowed to change teams after every win or loss. You are not allowed to change teams after a disconnection.
· You and your opponent must finish your match during the week that a certain bracket starts (ie: If Round 1 bracket starts at July 1st Saturday, you have til July 9th Sunday @ exactly 12:00 AM / midnight EST to finish your battle. If nobody gets to it, I’ll declare the winner based on a game of “Janken” (Rock, Paper, Scissors!).

[4] Do we get anything for winning?
Rights to brag. You play to have fun, I hope.

[5] General FAQ section
1) Will there be a G2?
Someday, if this goes well.

2) What would G2 be like?
Planning on double team-battles, meaning people will be paired with another person and they’ll be sharing wins. Best 3 out of 5 matches, and people will be winning with a partner, and not by themselves.

3) Why did you want to host a tourney?
Always wanted to ever since the NetBattle days!

4) Are any other items banned?
Nope. Only the ones in my list.

5) Can I use Deoxys-whatever form?
No.

6) What is “No Johns”?
“No excuses.”

Sign up begins now. Also, obviously, will be on Shoddy Battle.

Rules are not set in stone, might be changing a couple things. All of this just hits me when I slept earlier!

Great to hear! The rules are a bit complex, so I hope you guys are okay with it. The way the rules are made is to make sure that everyone does careful research and planning on their teams, and not just using a bunch of Pokemon from only 1 tier. This means your team(s) is/are more prone to new things that you might not even expect. I'm encourage all participants to do extremely careful research and have fun with this!

And yes, I'll add you to the list right now! @ anyoneisgod + Kurtle!

If I may ask whats with the HP ban seems a bit odd.

I think the banning of Focus Sash, no Hidden powers, and no NU Pokemon is kind of stupid :f6:.

I guess this would replace the OU tournament I was going to host ha ha.

I'd do this, except I find the no focus sash to be against my liking because it's one of the only ways to stop a few sweeps.

Plus having no HP pretty much eliminates the usefulness of certain pokemon.

You might think it's stupid. But I'm banning luck from the MetaGame. I always hated luck. Anything with luck always irked me. We'll see what the rest of them thinks, but just because I'm banning Focus Sash/Band doesn't mean your team will be swept. If you know how to use Taunt, it shouldn't be a problem for you unless you're facing a speedy Choice Bander.

I think this'll increase the challenge because you're not relying on Focus Sash/Band to take your fall for you. As for the HP-thing, it's to encourage more diverse sets.

Ditch the 10% chance one, but allow the 1 use one (since it's NOT based on luck). Banning NU pokemon completely discourages original though/efforts to create a unique team.

Focus sash adds no luck, and you need strategy to use it correctly. Focus band is understandable.

Are you being sarcastic? Like I said, I can easily change the HP-ban easily, I did that to make the tourney a bit harder on purpose. Well, I'm still open to the Focus Band/Sash comments, so I'm willing to listen. If I see enough votes on unbanning one of them, that's fine. I'm not unbanning both.

I think HP would allow more Diversity, (I mean that's just the words of someone with an 860ish Cre but meh)

Anyone else wanna jump on the Allow HP bandwagon with me or am I am on the Oregon trail and just got Dysentery?

Focus Sash is easily rendered useless by entry hazards/Fake Out/Sandstorm/Hail. Don't see why it needs to be banned.

Focus Band should be banned, I'm fine with that.

So far, all of you are saying:

Unban Hidden Power because it adds more versatility.

Right? Alright, majority rules. Unbanning is established.

Focus Sash requires strategy to use, because you have to have full HP, meaning it becomes useless in Sandstorm and Stealth Rocks, and once its used you can't switch the pokemon out. It's basically there in case your opponent pulls out something like a BellySpeed Linoone, who gets max attack, godly speed from a berry, and has one of the best priorities in the game.

Plus, not everyone can just whip out a Taunt whenever they feel like. What if your only taunter died before your opponent started setting up?

The only thing I wish we could have is a HP Alerter so you could know what type of HP something is running after it uses it.
