where the hell do you even compile APNGs at? Also, GIF may work better for crappy animations, since it uses the JPG coding for each frame, where as APNG is probably using PNG format, which takes longer to load just to have true dithering and better picture quality.

OK, so it was actually a mix of JPG and PNG :c\ JPG in that it grouped color codes and PNG that it had limited transparency abilities.
