Ask an Aran thread.
ShiKage Wrote:Well for one, scrolls are expensive as pineapple. Way too expensive for me to ever afford. An Eclipse would be way too expensive to make to be able to out-do a Karstan and I can't scroll that either. I don't see how a Zedbug is "so horrendously slow," but then again, a Zedbug with an Aran is just as fast as an Eclipse with a Dark Knight.

It is not hard to make a godly Eclipse... or a Karstan.. technically, Karstans would be harder to get, because these are droppables-only.. Eclipses are easier to make with Maker. Secondly, I scrolled a 120att/15 STR Eclipse, and a 118att/13STR Eclipse. It is definitely NOT hard. <_< You're only landing near 4 30's or so. Karstan has an advantage only if you're extremely Low-DEX or DEXless.

PS: Zedbugs + Evis sucks balls. Oh, and Hellslayers are slow as f'ck too.

Everything after level 80 is Slow (8) in JapanMS. lol

ONLY 4 30% scrolls!? Those are hard as pineapple to get in JMS. They're more than 10m each, the economy is in the s'hitter, since NO ONE is buying or selling anything for mesos, and I only have 21m mesos on all of my characters. I can't even scroll with 60%s because even those are 7m each... The best I can do is 100% my Karstan and stay with it until I can get a s'hit load of cash somehow.

Also, I found this in this thread :

Rei Wrote:I think it was more or less 8att per speed level.
Since Karstan is Normal(6), I'd say you need around 111 Slow(8) Pole Arm to match it.

So 112 ?

Is he right? He was comparing a Slow (8) to a 96 attack Karstan. That would mean my Zedbug is much better than my Karstan. :f6:

Depends on how much attack you have from elsewhere. It should be more than 111 though.
I believe it's on the order of 15/13 times attack, since the general speed ratio is something like (10+n)/16, And you're comparing 13/16 (Faster 3[6-3]) to 15/16 (Fast 5[8-3])

For example, if my Aran were to have a 96 Karstan, he would require ~117 Slow (8) to match it in DPS, approximately, because of off-weapon Attack bonuses. We don't know the exact speed differences for Aran's weapons though, so this is a rough estimate.

I get similar amounts (118 slow actually - assuming 15 atk glove, 13 blessing, 3 cape, 12 pot, 5 from Combo), I'm not sure how to test speed with an Aran though. Too many skills that can't be cast with a single button push means it depends on the player as well.

More fun is my 104 Snowboard, about as good as a 127 Slow(8) weapon. I guess I'm lucky to have already had a Dragon Knight so I owned a decent Polearm.

Does JMS have a speed cap? In Global, any Polearm Slow(7) or faster hits the cap with SI, so there's really no benefit to purple surfboard > Karstan > Eclipse except their total w.atk.

Barring training without a Buccaneer.

hmm a faster weapon means faster combos too

Does anyone else use joy2key to play their Aran? I'm having trouble activating combat step and Triple Swing seems really laggy.
Anyone know how to fix it?

I used joy2key. For combat step you can set it as a key on your keyboard and set it for your skill instead of double tapping your controller. As for triple swing, mashing your attack key should work...

You can use xpadder instead. Theres a free version out there somewhere. I use xpadder to play my Aran and it works WONDERFULLY.

If you can't find it. I can provide it.

for now its either a Karstan, Arcglaive or Eclipse?. Guessing Eclipses are cheap, no idea if it would be hard for u to make ur own Arcglaive i guess Scania is like full and those trees are killed all the time, i had no problems making one and u could do the Aran celebration quests on every mule u have hoping for a Karstan.

I've had a few karstans from the anniversary (and like 7 more from the boxes, but i can't use 2 maples/compy anymore cause of Windows 7), I'm going to use the 86/3 clean one that i have now. But my horrid luck with scrolling is telling me that scrolling isn't a real good option for me at this point (failed 5/6 shoe dex 60%s T.T only luck i ever get is when i attempt to blow up something in the process i.e. my 1 30% + 3 70%d knuckle and my 1 30% + 2 70%d xbow all in an attempt to explode them)

I might end up makering an eclipse i guess the tree spawn is probably non existant in Scania. Stupid event keeps giving me popsicles (8 in a row atm), hoping for more scrolls that aren't 100%. Thanks anyway Smile

what's the typical 3rd job build these days? i'm 71 with 1 in full swing and 3 sp sitting around. is 1 point in penril worth it? full swing or critical first?
Reply
Critical first is still the way to go I believe. Peril takes too many points and too much combo to be very useful in training. If you have just one point, and you even cross over 100 Combo, you can't use Smash to finish 10 mobs, you have to Peril to hit 4.

Full swing -> Crit -> Smart KB/snow charge -> smart KB/snow charge -> etc.

Anyone wanna enlighten me why aran skillbooks are overpriced like crazy? When pirates came out none of their books were this overpriced. EVER. Most of the books are at LEAST 50 mil. I recall my pirate books were (and still are) less than 10 mil each (with the exception of barrage 20 which is 20 mil).

ughh... 4th job is going to be hell if the books stay this price...

I am sorry if this question was posted already.

Im wondering what my 'endgame' polearm should be.
I dont know which would be better: Reverse Diersa or Crimson Arcglaive.
But I decided to get best polearm as possible. My funds are not great, at all, at the moment but Im patient and I can farm the items I need to forge them.
Not only farming items but also getting enough nx to make 9 Scroll for Polearm ATK 60% work. Vegas+Hammers.

What makes me think so much about it are these 3 'options':
1. Attack or Speed.
2. Outcome. Making the Diersa gives me much more control over the outcome of the weapon.
3. Getting 5acc from the Diersa or getting no acc from the Crimson Arcglaive.

My inital thoughts are Speed>Attack. Outcome with makerskill > normal forging. 5acc>no acc.

-The attack difference with both clean avg items would be 10att, but with maker I could get 3atk more on the Reverse Weapon.
Not to mention I could get 3STR+5acc more than the Crimson Arcglaive. Also the weapong leveling up would make it so much better in terms of attack and stats, but not in terms of speed.
-Final out come after 'makering' and scrolling, but no leveling, would be:
1. Crimson Arcglaive: 120att 11STR 5speed. Normal speed.
2. Reverse Diersa: 133att 14STR 5acc. Slower speed.

The only way to make the Arcglaive better in terms of attack would be risking it with 10% or 30% scrolls, which is not really worth it.
The Reverse Diersa is already great in terms of attack but it seems to be so slow.
I like how both look but the speed lack of attack/stats really makes me wonder.

Anyway...what do you Arans think about it?
Arcglaive or Diersa?
Random stats or bit of control on outcome?
Attack or speed?

Thanks.

A quick way to let yourself know how it feels is to equip a clean Hellslayer or Zedbug and test out the speed. Personally, I'd never want anything slower than Normal, just because it's a real drag. What attracted me to Aran in the first place was the elegance in their attacks, able to move quickly from mob to mob, and using a Diesra would just feel clunky. Don't forget that you can't really recoup the losses of a Diesra later if a new, better weapon is released.

Well I dont know now...getting the Crimsonwoods to forge it is a pain in ...everywhere. xD
So I guess I'll just save money and buy one Arcglaive, if I can find one lol.
If while training at Temple I get enough PoTs Icould change my mind and just get the Diersa.
