CD drive on laptop not working

I insert the disc, and nothing happens. I mean, the CD drive doesn't even appear in "My Computer"! And it was working fine just yesterday. Any pointers?

Have you tried another CD to see if that works? A few times in the past I've had trouble with a few just not working, especially blank ones when you buy a whole heap of them in bulk

Does the CD drive appear in My Computer without any discs in the drive?

Installed any programs lately? I had this one CD/DVD burning program that caused the same problem you described.

I have tried other CDs to no avail, and the CD drive does not appear in My Computer even without discs in it.

The only thing I installed recently was a Transformers RotF PC CD game. Could that be it?

Well, I had it a few months ago... I had to buy an external USB DVD drive (they're quite cheap though)... The old internal DVD drive from my laptop just died from all the years of bumps and dust... laptop was 5 years old though... :o

I think that's what I'm going to do, Devil. My laptop's close to 4 years old, and it's already lagging like crazy. Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
